The Welsh Government is undertaking a comprehensive review and reform of safeguarding processes in Wales, creating a new unified system to streamline learning, oversight, and accountability across agencies.
The initiative centres on the Single Unified Safeguarding Review (SUSR), designed to replace multiple, overlapping reviews (such as child protection reviews, adult protection reviews, and domestic homicide reviews).
Key aims include:
- Reducing retraumatisation of victims and families
- Ensuring that recommendations and learning are shared across Wales
- Making the review process more efficient
- Placing impacted families at the heart of investigations.
The review follows a public consultation, which ran for 14 weeks with engagement from more than 315 stakeholders and 48 formal responses.
