Supporting Girls at Night: How La Suzy Is Changing Menstrual Care in Schools and at Home #advert

Posted: 17th June 2025

As schools deepen their focus on whole-child wellbeing, a new area of support is gaining attention: night-time menstrual care.

For many girls—whether they board or go home each evening—managing periods overnight can be a quiet source of stress. Stained sheets, disrupted sleep, and embarrassment are common, particularly during early puberty when cycles can be irregular and heavy.

Now, a growing number of schools are introducing La Suzy—a discreet, reusable bed mat designed to catch leaks during sleep. It sits on top of the bedsheet, stays in place overnight, and can be rinsed, washed, and reused with ease. The mat comes with a compact, waterproof travel pouch, making it ideal not only for boarding houses but also for school trips, sports camps, and use at home.

Pastoral teams report that the product is making a real difference. “Some girls won’t say anything, but they’ll use it if it’s quietly available,” said one matron. “It gives reassurance without needing a conversation they might not feel ready for.”

Created by a former boarder who remembered the anxiety of leaking at night, La Suzy is part of a growing conversation around period dignity in schools. It offers a practical way for girls to manage their period independently, with dignity and comfort—especially in environments where privacy is limited.

With safeguarding and pastoral care teams increasingly recognising the emotional and physical impact of menstruation, La Suzy is becoming part of school wellbeing packs, Year 7 starter kits, and signposted to families preparing girls for life away from home.

Sometimes it’s the smallest solutions that make the biggest difference.
