Wyke is an established, highly successful Sixth Form College with an outstanding reputation in the locality. The college draws students from Kingston-upon-Hull, East Riding of Yorkshire, and further afield. The largest and one of the most successful A-level providers in the area, we offer applicants the opportunity to work alongside committed colleagues who have enabled our students to achieve high levels of success. At Wyke we put the student first and all decisions centre around staff working together to meet their best interests.

The college has an extremely strong pastoral support system and we are looking to recruit to this additional role to add to the existing specialist team. Working with the Safeguarding and Welfare Lead and fellow Safeguarding Officer, you will act as a first point of contact, receiving, responding to and acting upon referrals by staff, students and external bodies. You will either provide support yourself or refer students on to appropriate services and individuals.

The successful candidate will have an understanding of and commitment to safeguarding and have some experience of working in this area. They will be confident using electronic safeguarding systems and have a sound judgement and the ability to appropriately assess riskExcellent communications skills and the ability to be sensitive and resilient in difficult situations are also crucial. A qualification in this area would be desirable but is not essential as training will be provided.

We offer a forward-thinking, welcoming college with supportive management and a modern environment. Benefits include a strong programme of staff development and membership of the Teachers’ Pension Scheme. We are lucky to work with great students who are here to learn and 96% of staff said they would recommend the College as a good place to work in the summer 2022 Staff Pulse Survey. Members of staff are initially paid for 24 days of annual leave plus bank holidays, rising to 29 days after 5 years’ service and have access to a defined benefit pension scheme (LGPS).

The College takes safeguarding extremely seriously and a full range of pre-employment checks including an enhanced DBS disclosure will be required for this post.
