About us

The role is based within the Safety and Protection Service.  Implemented in 2018, this service deal with a variety of issues which are designed to keep residents, businesses and visitors to the City safe.  From issuing taxi licences to managing projects related to safety at night, modern slavery, and training all relevant members of the organisation to understand Safeguarding issues, this service delivers some of the Council’s key services to prevent crime and disorder and ensure our neighbourhoods and residents are safe.

Job description

Responsibilities include:

  • To Lead the Council and Colchester Borough Homes’ approach to Safeguarding issues, ensuring the organisation and its services comply with its responsibilities under legislation, its own policies and demonstrates good practice in these fields.
  • Work with the senior named Officer for Safeguarding in Colchester City Council (CCC) and Colchester Borough Homes (CBH), to implement, monitor and review the Corporate policies to ensure that both organisations meet their legal responsibilities for Safeguarding.
  • Complete annual self-assessment tool for safeguarding and any subsequent improvement or action plans and ensure relevant Policies and Strategies are up to date.
  • Co-ordinate statutory and discretionary Safeguarding processes and procedures ensuring they are embedded within services and relevant records are being maintained to provide audit trail of activity, referrals etc.
  • Deliver a comprehensive Safeguarding training and awareness programme for new staff, existing staff and Elected members, and develop ongoing safeguarding training, including via e-learning, to ensure officers are able to undertake their roles effectively in a way that supports Safeguarding good practice.

Qualifications, skills and experience

Applicants must have:

  • Education to A Level or equivalent Standardor relevant experience in a similar role
  • Level 3 Safeguarding Training

Knowledge of Legislation, government guidance and national framework for safeguarding
