We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Safeguarding, DBS & Wellbeing Officer to join our team. You will join us working 22.4 hours per week, on a 6-month fixed term contract basis and will be based from home. In return you will receive a salary of up to £24,445.37 per annum plus excellent benefits.

The Safeguarding Team at Cats Protection is an essential part of the People & Engagement Directorate, and works closely with colleagues in HR, Volunteering, Equity, Diversity & Inclusion, Learning & Development and Resourcing. We are responsible for responding to concerns, providing timely advice and guidance, and promoting continuous improvement in safeguarding practice throughout the charity. Through a person-centred approach that engages effectively with external statutory and regulatory agencies we play a vital role in ensuring that everyone who works, volunteers or comes into contact with Cats Protection has a safe and positive experience.

Responsibilities of our Safeguarding, DBS & Wellbeing Officer:

The Safeguarding, DBS & Wellbeing Officer will act as the first point of contact for safeguarding concerns, support safer recruitment through management of criminal record check applications and play a key role in ensuring that employees, volunteers and those we come into contact with have a safe and positive experience. They will play a key role in leading and managing safeguarding practice and promoting a positive safeguarding and wellbeing culture at Cats Protection. They will coordinate DBS applications, manage referrals to external agencies and support the implementation of Cats Protection’s wellbeing programme. Through contributing to performance and trend reporting and maintaining accurate records of concerns and actions, they will help drive awareness and engagement with safeguarding, safer recruitment and wellbeing. This role will assist in the development and delivery of training, communication & engagement, safer recruitment, policies & guidance.

What we’re looking for in our Safeguarding, DBS & Wellbeing Officer:

  • Extensive experience in child protection and child safeguarding
  • Understanding of legislation and processes to effectively manage criminal record checks in England, Wales, Northern Ireland and Scotland and experience of managing DBS application processes
  • Extensive experience in adult safeguarding
  • Understanding of safer recruitment approaches including legislation regarding criminal record checks
  • A commitment to person-centred safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and adults at risk
  • Willingness to participate in further training and development opportunities
  • Experience of planning and prioritising workload
  • A commitment to equal opportunities, awareness of diversity issues and a positive and non-discriminatory approach
  • Confident in developing and delivering training
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders
  • A recognised professional qualification equivalent to at least NVQ Level 3 in safeguarding, social work, policing, health/social care, youth work, youth offending or education
