An exciting opportunity is now available to join the Safer Care Directorate at Cumbria Northumberland Tyne and Wear NHS Foundation Trust as a Case Review Officer (subject to AfC evaluation) within the Safeguarding and Public Protection (SAPP) Team. The organisation is an outstanding specialist Mental Health and Learning Disability Trust providing services across the Northeast of England and North Cumbria.

The Safer Care Directorate aims to provide a comprehensive effective and sustainable culture of learning and improvement to underpin the delivery of good clinical governance in support of our clinical localities and the wider organisation.

The main purpose of this post will be to support the Associate Director (Safer Care) to enable the Trust to meet its statutory safeguarding obligations as part of multiagency working and statutory safeguarding review processes to ensure the provision of safe and effective services.

The postholder will undertake scoping exercises, produce chronologies, and author Independent Management reports (IMR’s) in relation to Safeguarding Adult Reviews, Domestic Homicide Reviews, Child Safeguarding Practice Reviews and other Learning reviews that are commissioned by Local Safeguarding Boards and Partnerships.

The postholder will support the organisations Named Nurse(s) to undertake the role of a review panel core member and will represent CNTW at review meetings linked to the above statutory review processes.

As the IMR author, the postholder will look openly and critically at individual and organisational practice and the context within which people were working to see whether the serious harm/death/homicide indicates that changes could and should be made, including identification of how those changes will be brought about. The review author will also identify examples of good practice and recommendations for single agency learning.

The successful candidate should possess, knowledge of the national safeguarding agenda and relevant legislation, excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.

Production and presentation of high-quality reports is an essential function of this role.
