Job Description

Lewisham Council is delivering London’s most ambitious Refugee Resettlement Programme, working to welcome one hundred vulnerable refugee families to the borough in the next few years.

Join us and work in a high-profile role that makes a real impact on people’s lives, giving you responsibility to make Lewisham’s Refugee Resettlement Programme a success.

The role
As part of its Refugee Resettlement Programme, Lewisham is working to welcome a hundred vulnerable refugee families over the next few years, giving them somewhere to call home.

We’re looking for someone to manage this programme – the most ambitious in London. The aims of the programme are to:

1.    Support resettled families so that they are able to live safely and securely
2.    Empower resettled families to gain the skills they need to lead independent lives
3.    Integrate resettled families by empowering them to engage with their communities and promoting inclusivity amongst residents
4.    Continuously learn and develop in order to improve opportunities for resettled families and the wider population.

You will be working with a range of stakeholders both within and outside Lewisham Council to achieve these aims.

You will be responsible for every aspect of making the Refugee Resettlement Programme a success.

You will be responsible for supporting refugees from before they arrive – by working with the Home Office and Lewisham Council departments to accept families on to the programme. You will coordinate their arrival, ensuring relevant funding and arrangements are made, and ensure that the refugees are supported throughout their time on the programme, ensuring that they are able to access services and support and are able to integrate into their local communities, moving towards independence.

You will regularly meet with refugees and ensure that any issues are solved quickly and efficiently. You will also work closely with our contracted delivery partner to discuss any issues and monitor and evaluate contract performance.

This is your opportunity to make a real difference in people’s lives and hold a high-profile position with real responsibility and impact.

Location
Laurence House, Catford, SE6 4RU and Eros House, Catford, SE6 2EG, with property visits across the borough as required.

What we’re looking for

Great with people, you will be able to build effective relationships with a range of stakeholders both within and outside the Council, including voluntary organisations, local services and our contracted partners. You will be proactive and practical, looking to solve problems before they occur, but remaining calm and constructive when things do not go as planned.
You will be extremely well organised and have an eye for project management. You will also be committed to changing and improving, to make sure the programme continues to succeed.

You’ll be comfortable communicating in a range of ways and to different audiences, from negotiating with service providers, presenting to councillors, and addressing sensitive issues with families.

Arabic language skills would be useful but not essential.

In return, we’ll offer excellent development opportunities, plus a range of benefits that includes a career average pension scheme, flexible working and the opportunity to make a real difference to our local community.

Salary details: £37,491 – £39,462 (SO2)
