IMAGE CLASSIFICATION ASSESSOR

£16506 per annum + benefits

Part-time 20 hours per week Mon – Fri 10am – 2pm – Cambridge

“We work to make the internet a safer place.” Never has a truer word been spoken of the Internet Watch Foundation. Our work is trusted by police, governments and technology companies. And now you could be part of our team to help us in our mission.

This individual will possess the right personal attributes to make a difference to the lives of sexually abused and exploited children around the world.

You’ll be part of a new taskforce being set up within IWF’s world-renowned hotline to grade and hash two million images showing the sexual abuse of children. The hashes of the images will provide the backbone to initiatives deployed by police and internet companies around the world. We have successfully recruited for five positions and we are looking for one more individual.

This is a tough job and only emotionally resilient people should apply. The interview stages will help us assess a candidate’s suitability to the role and the successful candidate can expect a gold-standard welfare programme to support them with this task.

This is not a job for those on a personal mission, or for those who are easily upset by illegal online content. And you don’t need to be techy – we’ll teach you everything you need to know.

We’re looking for someone with attention to detail, a good memory, who can make accurate judgements time after time and who are looking to gain an enormous sense of making a difference in the world. You could be any age, and from any background. What will unite you is your passion to do good, and your resilience to material showing the sexual abuse of children.

About us:

In 1996 IWF was founded with four staff members and a determination to do what’s right; we assessed 26 reports in our Hotline that year and found two instances of child sexual abuse imagery.

Today, the assessment of more than 1.2 million individual reports has led to the successful removal of millions of child sexual abuse images and videos across more than 560,000 webpages globally (up until the end of 2019).

Last year alone, our technology crawled 72 million webpages and two thirds of a billion images in pursuit of child sexual abuse imagery. And we now provide more than two billion people globally a safe place to report this content.

This role is part time. You will be required to view criminal material and are therefore UK office based only (with no working from home/remotely allowed), in a Covid-safe, supportive and friendly environment on the outskirts of Cambridge. The building is also accessible with a lift and disabled toilet.

CVs will not be accepted.

As we need someone to start as soon as possible, we will be interviewing suitable candidates at the earliest opportunity. For this reason, we recommend you submit your application as quickly as possible. An enhanced DBS check, pre-medical and satisfactory references will be required before employment can commence.

Please complete the forms below and forward them to recruitment@iwf.org.uk

Previous applicants for this position need not re-apply.
