Childnet is a children’s charity with a mission to help make the internet a great and safe place for children and young people. Since 1995 we have had a positive impact with our empowering, youth-led, evidence-based, collaborative approach to empower children and young people to use the internet safely and positively.

We are a small charity with ambitious plans and dedicated and passionate staff. From our innovative resources for 3-18s, parents, carers and teachers, to pupil powered online safety programmes, we have stayed at the cutting edge of the latest technology trends by speaking to thousands of children and young people each year.

Childnet is looking to recruit a Deputy CEO, a key role within the organisation that provides the opportunity for hands-on as well as strategic working. It is a full-time position and works across a range of exciting projects and activities at Childnet. This role would suit an enthusiastic team player who is passionate about making a positive difference for children and young people online.

In this role, you will

·       work collaboratively as part of the Senior Management Team (SMT), comprising the CEO, Business Manager and Deputy CEO, and attend trustees meetings.

·       Work in conjunction with the SMT on all the aspects of the day-to-day running of the organisation, oversee the strategic and operational management of the organisation, and a wide range of projects, You will deputise for the CEO externally as appropriate.

·       lead on the development and implementation of Childnet’s fundraising strategy, alongside the Business Manager who provides the HR function.

·       manage the Communications and Marketing Manager, as well as the Programme Manager for the Childnet Digital Leaders team, supporting them to deliver engaging programmes, communications and marketing.

·       work closely with colleagues across the UK Safer Internet Centre, acting as Deputy Director and working closely with our partners the Internet Watch Foundation and SWGfL, project managing Safer Internet Day, coordinating a group of colleagues across the UKSIC to plan, develop, deliver and evaluate the campaign.

·       work with all members of the Childnet team in supporting and participating in a range of different work.

You will need

·        experience of programme and project management – including planning, development, implementation, evaluation and reporting

·       effective team leadership and/or line management experience

·        experience developing and maintaining relationships with external stakeholders and partners

·        demonstrable fundraising experience and success, including proposal writing for corporates and charitable trusts, and for UK and local government

·        experience in developing and managing relations with funders and ensuring targets and reporting criteria are met

·        experience of working under pressure with competing priorities and deadlines and the ability to effectively manage this

·       experience of financial and budget management (including setting, monitoring and reporting on team and/or project budgets)

·        experience of working with children and young people

·        experience of working in a small multi-disciplined staff team and contribute to other projects that staff are leading on

·        demonstrable ability to think and plan strategically

·        excellent organisational skills with an ability to self-organise and largely “self-manage”

·        excellent analytical and communication skills, with strong writing and report-writing skills

·        ability to juggle very different tasks, use initiative, think creatively, and address challenges flexibly and purposefully, prioritising a wide range of commitments while working to tight deadlines

·        excellent communication manner – online, on the phone and face-to-face

·        highly developed interpersonal skills, and an ability to communicate and present effectively with a wide range of people outside the organisation, including a number of very senior decision-makers

·        ability to handle and resolve conflict

·        strong IT skills in key applications
