The basics

Location: Face to face delivery: pan-London; agile working for all other duties
Contract: Permanent, subject to funding
Hours: 35 per week
Starting salary: £33,545.00 per annum

Who we are

Safer London is a charity working with young Londoners and families who are affected by violence and exploitation. We believe that when a child or young person comes to us they are just that – a child or a young person: we don’t define them by the issue that has brought them to us. By working alongside young Londoners, their families and peers in the places where they spend their time, we can create a safe London not just for them but for everyone.

Who you are

You will bring wide-ranging expertise as a credible professional around all aspects of criminal violence, and you will have a lengthy and proven track record of engaging with children and young people and securing services to support them. A key aspect of this role will be supporting victims and survivors through the criminal justice processes (including attending court, supporting witness statements, advocating on behalf of the victim’s voice within the criminal justice system) and supporting them to engage with people and agencies they may not trust. In this role you will offer relationship-based support which advocates for young Londoners’ needs, celebrates their strengths and helps them focus on their positive futures. In planning their support, you will consider their experience of trauma, safety and harm across the various contexts of their lives. Interventions will be trauma-responsive and may last up to 2 years.

If you are committed and resilient, and believe you have what it takes to help us to improve the lives of young Londoners and their families please apply.

What the role involves

– Building trusting relationships with young Londoners in order to support them over a prolonged period, including while they engage with the Criminal Justice System.
– Delivering effective and appropriate interventions for young Londoners affected by involvement in criminal violence, ensuring that young Londoners receive the support they need in order to meet their individually assessed needs in line with Safer London’s service models.
– Working effectively with partner agencies and having an awareness of criminal justice processes, and of partnership and inter-agency work around criminal violence.
– Undertaking high-quality case recording in line with the highest standards and best practice principles.
– Supporting young Londoners to understand how the criminal justice process works. This may include children and young people who have displayed what may be perceived as perpetrating behaviours.
– Working with partners, communities and other key stakeholders to deliver the service effectively in order to ensure that all victims of criminal violence receive appropriate care and provision to help their recovery process.
– Acting at all times in line with safeguarding legislation and guidance, as well as Safer London’s policies/procedures and wider pan-London processes and protocols.
