The Children and Family Minister will work alongside the Vicar and Ministry Team in developing and creatively re-imagining our children and family ministry. They will also be a member of our new Apostolic Team and take some time to forge new relationships with schools and charities working with families and children throughout Brighton and Hove in the development of new missional projects.
The Children and Family Minister will be a key member of the All Saints Ministry Team and Apostolic Team. They will ensure that children and young families feel welcomed as an integral part of our church community and also work alongside the Associate Vicar in establishing children focussed missional projects in partnership with other parishes in Brighton and Hove. They will have experience in children’s ministry in a church setting and will be keen to educate and mentor others. They will build intentional links between our existing children’s provision, including our toddler group, Messy Church and Diddy Disciples, drawing families into the heart of our church life. This is a lay role and does not require ordination in the Church of England.
Responsibilities:
- Generate and implement an exciting and challenging vision for children’s and family ministry at All Saints.
- Re-establish and build upon existing ministries to children and their families.
- Help recruit, train and equip a team of volunteers to work with children and their families.
- Co-ordinate and oversee the termly programme for children and families as well as single events and festival activities.
- Develop a sense of sacramental and incarnational spirituality for children.
- Work alongside the clergy team to develop and use catechetical materials and courses for children and their families, including first communion, baptism and confirmation preparation.
- Be responsible for the day to day tasks of implementing All Saints’ Hove safeguarding policy with the Parish Safeguarding Officer (including DBS checks, volunteer training and risk assessments).
- Ensure that effective administration and record keeping is maintained for all aspects of the work.
- Work alongside the Associate Vicar in generating missional projects for children and families within Brighton and Hove.
- Generate creative partnerships with local schools
Essential and Desirable skills, Knowledge, Experience and qualifications required for the job:
- Experience in children’s work within a church setting (or otherwise similar institution).
- A generous Anglican catholic spirituality and the ability to communicate this spirituality with colour and dynamism.
- Ability to engage with and inspire children and their families in exploring faith and spirituality.
- Experience of establishing, encouraging and sustaining volunteer teams.
- Flexibility to adapt to changing circumstances and develop new ways of working.
- Proven experience of working within a team but also under their own initiative
- Willingness to give and receive feedback, and respond accordingly.
- Ability to generate new creative relationships between different community groups and institutions.
- Experience in teaching others in the area of children’s spirituality and outreach to children. Desirable
- Proficient in word-processing, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.
- Creation and implementation of policy
- Understanding of DBS and child protection processes
