We are currently recruiting for a Child Sexual Abuse Prevention Manager to join our Scotland team at our Edinburgh office (hybrid working available with two days in the office required). This is a permanent position based on 37.5hrs per week.
About us
Stop It Now! Scotland is the only national charity dedicated exclusively to tackling child sexual abuse. As a growing and influential third sector child protection agency, we are part of The Lucy Faithfull Foundation, a UK wide charity focusing on the prevention of child sexual abuse through engaging with both protective adults and those who present a risk to children. Our work is vital and has real impact – every day we protect children from harm across the country through our advice and active support for adults, helping people make positive choices to prevent abuse before it happens.
About the role
We are an organisation that is increasingly recognised for its excellence in its work around child protection and safeguarding. This role is an excellent opportunity to make a significant contribution to improve protection of children from harm across Scotland. This is a highly rewarding role within a friendly, supportive and hardworking team which is committed to keeping children safe from sexual harm.
This role will head up our primary prevention work. This will include delivering training and awareness raising events to members of the public as well as training to professionals in relation to the prevention of child sexual abuse. This will also include engagement with child facing organisations to help them pivot child protection to include actions that prevent the abuse of children before it happens.
The postholder will contribute to public facing resources such as our Upstream website. A key component of the job is building partnerships and professional relationships as well as public understanding that contributes to improved safeguarding of children from sexual harm. Expert knowledge about people who commit sexual offences is required and experience of providing consultancy and training to other professionals is desirable.
The Prevention Manager will also contribute to clinical provision of services within Stop It Now! Scotland where appropriate. This will involve direct work with adults who have committed sexual offences or are at risk of doing so and with those who have been involved with online sexual offending including viewing indecent images of children and / or grooming / online solicitation. The work may also involve support of families affected by online offences. Work may be undertaken 1-1 and by groupwork. It is envisaged that the role will be split 50% between developmental work focusing on primary prevention and client facing work.
About you
Our ideal candidate will be an energetic professional, who is proactive and outcome focused with exceptional communication and relationship skills. You will be able to evidence a successful track record of working with individuals and families impacted by child sexual abuse. You will be able to demonstrate confidence in translating the organisation’s mission into direct child protection practice and equipping other professionals in tackling child sexual abuse. You will have experience of delivering training and providing clear advice to individuals and organisations in identifying risk and protective factors in particular situations and promoting safety for children.
This role will involve showing leadership in the field and will require considerable networking skills. An ability to shift the discourse about child sexual abuse ‘upstream’ so that professionals and the public understand in practical terms what they can do to prevent sexual abuse before it happens will be vital. The successful candidate will need to be a good communicator who is committed to the concept of child sexual abuse as a preventable public health issue.
