JOB DESCRIPTION
We are looking for an experienced and qualified Safeguarding Officer who has a wealth of experience working with children and within an educational and/ or sporting environment. The Designated Safeguarding Officer (DSO) will primarily be responsible for managing and reporting safeguarding concerns, drafting, implementing and championing policies, procedures and daily practice to safeguard children, young adults and adults at risk in the Nottingham Forest Academy.
The post requires flexible working hours, including regular evening and weekends.
Reporting to the Safeguarding Manager, you will be based at the Nigel Doughty Training Ground.
Responsibilities & tasks
• To work closely with all Academy staff to create a positive, child-centred environment with an open door and confidential approach to working.
• Ensuring good practice is met by championing the safeguarding policy and procedures. Continuously improving staff, player and visitors’ awareness of the Club’s commitment to safeguard children, young people and adults at risk.
• Be the first point of contact within the Academy for reporting and managing concerns.
• Support the Safeguarding Manager in managing cases reported to and by the Academy staff using our online reporting application “MyConcern”.
• Maintain accurate, confidential and up-to-date documentation on all safeguarding cases where required in line with GDPR regulations, undertaking further investigations when required.
• Co-ordinate the dissemination of policy, procedures and resources throughout the Academy including but not limited to staff, players, host families, parents and guardians. • Provide advice and support to all staff, volunteers and associates of the Academy in relation to safeguarding concerns and queries.
• Help to ensure that safeguarding standards are met, maintained and exceeded within in the Academy.
• To support the Safeguarding Manager to deliver strategic objectives based on Academy KPI outputs and EPPP requirements.
• Assist the Safeguarding Manager in recording, monitoring and updating the Safeguarding Training register, ensuring staff training is up to date, including the FA Safeguarding Children certificates and First Aid for coaches.
• Support the Club’s Safer Recruitment process by ensuring new and existing Academy staff undertake the relevant DBS checks in a timely manner.
• Responsible for the recruitment & support of “Host” families for the Club. Undertake house visits and complete reports, advising on improvements where necessary.
• Attend Academy training and fixtures for all age groups in the Academy to observe and feedback where applicable on best practice. Including but not limited to venues home and away.
• Deliver educational workshops for players, parents and host families during the season on safeguarding and other initiatives, such as online safety.
• Responsible for identifying staff training and development needs by evaluating strength and weaknesses. In addition, once identified, responsible for planning, organising and overseeing appropriate training on an annual basis.
• Attend and contribute to the Academy Management Team meetings as a representative of the safeguarding team.
• To maintain player information confidentiality and professional distance from all playing staff acting within professional codes of conduct and scope of practice at all times.
Qualifications, Skills & Experience
• FA Safeguarding Level 2 or equivalent.
• Experience of safeguarding and working with children, ideally in an elite sport environment.
• Firm understanding of Safeguarding policies and procedures.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Comfortable with delivering training to a large group of people.
• Must be IT literate and comfortable using SharePoint, Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint as a minimum requirement.
• Flexible, caring and a non-judgmental approach and attitude.
• Always hold a professional manner and remain compliant with confidentiality
