Course outline:
This workshop will focus on the disclosure elements of DBS, namely DBS checks, with a particular focus on understanding eligibility for Enhanced, and Enhanced with Barred List(s) DBS checks. This session is aimed at individuals who are involved in the recruitment of staff or volunteers and would like to learn more about the different types of DBS check and when a role is eligible for a particular type of check. The different levels of DBS checks and the information included on them.

- Understand the role of DBS
- The different levels of check and the type of information disclosed
- Gain an understanding of eligibility and when an employee/volunteer is eligible for a check
- Understand what ‘Regulated Activity’ is
- Overview of the DBS Update Service and it’s benefits
- How DBS fits into your safer recruitment practices
Speaker:
Jo Wheatley, Regional Outreach Manager, Disclosure and Barring Service
Jo has worked for DBS since October 2022, beginning her journey as the Regional Outreach Adviser for the West Midlands. In June 2024, she progressed to the role of Regional Outreach Manager for the Midlands and the South.
In her current position, Jo not only line manages several Regional Outreach Advisers but also supports the Partnerships team in engaging with a wide range of organisations across England, Wales, and Northern Ireland. She is deeply passionate about safeguarding and takes pride in the positive impact DBS has in promoting safer recruitment practices.
Outside of work, Jo serves as a child welfare officer for her local football club, a role that perfectly combines her safeguarding expertise with her love of football.
