Safeguarding in online contexts

Course outline:

Online contexts are now a key feature of all safeguarding topics.  This webinar explores the online contexts linked to three key safeguarding topics.  What should we be looking out for, what responses should we be preparing, and how can we minimise harm whilst supporting children and young people to get the best out of the online world.

  • The scope of online contexts in safeguarding practice
  • Mental health and the online context
  • The staff code of conduct and the online context
  • Child’s voice, children’s rights and the online context
  • Identification, response and recovery.

  • Gain greater confidence of the role of online contexts in supporting mental health
  • Increase understanding of how online contexts and the online conduct of workers and volunteers in positions of trust impact safer organisations practice and child welfare

  • Enhanced knowledge and understanding of identification, response and recovery programmes for professionals and children who need support and understanding.

Claire Dan, Director of Safeguarding BSA Group and Director, Sacpa

Claire is Director of Safeguarding and Director, Sacpa and leads on the provision of safeguarding advice and support to members and the development and delivery of CPD and safeguarding consultancy services. Claire is a safeguarding specialist and leader with a background in education welfare, youth justice, and early help contexts which have involved a strong focus on diverse and collaborative partnerships, professional development and supervision of front-line safeguarding colleagues, and leading multi-disciplinary teams and projects. Between 2006 and 2013 Claire was involved with Luton Safeguarding Children Board as a lead multi-agency safeguarding trainer, developing and delivering single and multi-agency safeguarding training, and since 2013 has delivered pieces of bespoke consultancy work, and providing a range of safeguarding consultancy on a freelance basis.
