Gaming and exposure to radicalisation and grooming

Course Outline:

This webinar takes delegates beyond prevent training and explores the nature and extent of individuals and groups who groom through misinformation and direct means using a range of online platforms.  Delegates will have the most up to date information about the activity and means of grooming to draw vulnerable persons into their sphere of influence and consider safeguarding responses to prevent, deter and support those affected.

Training topics will include:

  • The nature and extent of individuals and groups who groom children, young people and vulnerable persons online
  • The use if online platforms, direct means and misinformation for online grooming and radicalisation
  • What research evidence tells us, what are the future developments and emerging risks.

Learning outcomes:

  • Supplement their prevent training with the latest research in this area of safeguarding practice
  • Have the most up to date information about the activity and means of grooming to draw vulnerable persons
  • Consider safeguarding responses to prevent, deter and support those affected.

Speaker:

Jacob Davey, Head of Research & Policy of Far-right and Hate Movements

His research focuses on the role of digital communications in inter-communal conflict, internet culture, online hate speech and the international far-right. He has led a number of projects piloting novel models for identifying extremist conversation online as well as interventions to counter this phenomenon. He has advised national and local policymakers on right-wing extremism, including the Home Affairs Select Committee, and has lead trainings with frontline practitioners on the mobilisation strategies of extremist groups. He has provided commentary on extremism-related issues in a number of platforms including The Guardian, The Independent, and The BBC.
