Applying the Safeguarding Practitioner Information Sharing Advice

Course outline:

The new government advice for safeguarding practitioners on information sharing reframes the 7 golden rules and shifts the focus of information sharing from consent to legal basis.

This seminar uses case study examples and group work discussion to provide safe space practice in identifying the appropriate legal basis, applying the legal basis and recording the legal basis for information sharing.

Training topics will include:

  • What does the new government advice say
  • The reframing of the 7 golden rules
  • What is legal basis vs. consent and why the change
  • The interface with health information sharing guidance
  • The importance of recording information sharing decisions
  • Practical group-work application on case study examples
  • Difficult conversations: explaining the rationale for information sharing decisions.

Learning outcomes:

  • Increase knowledge and understanding of changes in recent safeguarding information sharing advice
  • Be confident about applying and recording the legal basis for information sharing
  • Increase appreciation of the interface between advice and guidance on safeguarding and health information sharing
  • Consider how to frame difficult conversations about information sharing decisions and actions.

Claire Dan, Director of Safeguarding and Director, Sacpa

Claire is Director of Safeguarding and Director, Sacpa and leads on the provision of safeguarding advice and support to members and the development and delivery of CPD and safeguarding consultancy services. Claire is a safeguarding specialist and leader with a background in education welfare, youth justice, and early help contexts which have involved a strong focus on diverse and collaborative partnerships, professional development and supervision of front-line safeguarding colleagues, and leading multi-disciplinary teams and projects. Between 2006 and 2013 Claire was involved with Luton Safeguarding Children Board as a lead multi-agency safeguarding trainer, developing and delivering single and multi-agency safeguarding training, and since 2013 has delivered pieces of bespoke consultancy work, and providing a range of safeguarding consultancy on a freelance basis.
