Updated for Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE) 2026

A Level 2 Certificate of Attendance is available upon completion.

This essential safeguarding refresher is designed for all staff working with children and young people who are not Designated Safeguarding Leads. It incorporates the latest updates from statutory guidance, inspection standards, and key learning from recent safeguarding reviews and case studies.

The training provides practical, up-to-date information to ensure staff feel confident in recognising concerns, responding appropriately, and fulfilling their responsibilities within a safeguarding framework.

This programme can also be delivered on a consultancy basis, either in-person or online.

Training topics will include:

• Overview of the legal and statutory safeguarding framework
• Recognising the signs and symptoms of abuse
• Understanding specific forms of abuse, including:
  • Child Sexual Exploitation (CSE) and Child Criminal Exploitation (CCE)
  • Grooming (including online grooming)
  • Child-on-Child Abuse
  • County Lines
  • The Prevent Duty and recognising signs of radicalisation
• Responding to concerns: identifying, recording, and reporting abuse
• Personal vulnerability and professional boundaries

Learning outcomes:

By the end of the session, participants will be able to:

• Demonstrate increased knowledge of how to safeguard and promote the welfare of children
• Recognise a wide range of signs and symptoms associated with different types of abuse
• Understand and describe specific safeguarding risks and how they may present in different contexts
• Know how to respond to a concern, including how to record and report disclosures or suspicions appropriately
• Reflect on their own role, responsibilities, and vulnerabilities in the safeguarding process

Speaker:

Christina Fairhead, State registered nurse

Christina started nurse training in 1978 and since qualifying as a state registered nurse (SRN) has enjoyed a very varied career.

Between 2005 and 2020 Christina held senior NHS roles including the management of safeguarding children services within a Community Health Trust and Health Commissioning Services.

From 2010 to 2020 Christina worked as a Designated Nurse Safeguarding Children first,  across the city of Leeds then across Local Authority Area of  Kirklees.

She has a Master’s Degree in Child Welfare and was awarded the title ‘Queen’s Nurse’ (2019) for “Continued commitment to improving standards of care in the community and to learning and leadership.”
