Course outline:

Mental health remains a leading safeguarding concern for children, young people, their families, and the professionals who support them. This webinar explores key considerations for managing mental health within organisational settings, with a particular focus on effective mental health risk assessment and review processes.

Training topics will include:

  • Current challenges in managing mental health in safeguarding contexts
  • Understanding when mental health becomes a safeguarding issue
  • The role of mental health risk assessments
  • Recognising thresholds for support and accessing specialist services
  • Knowing when to escalate concerns or initiate an incident review.

Learning outcomes:

  • Be up to date with emerging challenges in managing mental health
  • Feel more confident identifying when mental health concerns require safeguarding action
  • Increase knowledge and understanding of mental health risk assessments
  • Know when to escalate concerns and carry out an incident review.

Speaker:

Phillip Beisty, CYP Psychotherapist and family therapist

Phill is a child psychotherapist in private practise as well as being a magistrate sitting in the child and family court with previous experience of being a safeguarding lead for a corporate mental health company, currently working in a range of settings.

Phill’s background as a therapist includes working with vulnerable children within maintained and independent special schools and specialist units schools.  Managing and delivering therapy services to a wide range of students with needs ranging from complex trauma and neurodiverse conditions involving leadership in safeguarding in the context of complex safeguarding and multi-agency arrangements.

Phill has a passion and strong belief that all children and young people should have the best start in life, and that they can access the appropriate therapy and safeguarding services to ensure this can happen
