Welfare and Safeguarding Officer
Oxford

Fixed Term (April to September 2024)

A fantastic opportunity for someone with an interest working with young people to be a key part of giving students a safe and enjoyable experience on our short courses.

About the role

Location: Oxford
Start: April 2024
Reports to: Senior Operations Manager
Salary: £24,000 p/a pro-rata

This is a key role making sure our international students aged 9‒12, and the staff working with them are appropriately supported throughout our short courses. Day to day, you will be working with the Service Delivery department either in the office or in a college, responding to queries and issues that require specific attention. You’ll make key decisions and take action in collaboration with the head office team and residential COurse Directors. Main duties include:

● Safeguarding and welfare lead – Ensure protection of students in accordance with our
Safeguarding Policy.

● React to early signs of issues – Take action and be the lead on all welfare and safeguarding issues, in collaboration with Operations where necessary.

● Student discipline – Respond to student disciplinary issues, escalating where necessary.
● Staff liaison – Be the first point of contact for staff working directly with students who need safeguarding and welfare guidance.
● Record keeping – Keeping appropriate, accurate records including all safeguarding, welfare and disciplinary issues.
● Upholding standards – Maintain a professional and respectful image of the company
● Emergency duty – Share emergency rota responsibilities with the Operations team during course delivery.
● Assisting with other delivery duties – Attending staff training, assisting with site setup and any other duties as required within the Head Office team to support course delivery.

About you

● You’re personable, with a strong team mentality and work ethic
● You’re able to adjust your priorities in response to new information, proactively problem solving and delegating or escalating as needed
● You take the initiative, making key decisions and ensuring they’re actioned

● You’re comfortable and confident with difficult conversations, and remain diplomatic in both written and verbal communications

● You’re highly organised, with strong task management skills and great attention to detail
● You’re able to work well with colleagues both in person and remotely

Essential:
● Experience working with young people
● Proven ability to manage safeguarding, welfare and disciplinary situations
● Thorough with great attention to detail
● Excellent IT proficiency
● Highly personable with a strong team mentality and work ethic

Desirable
● Worked at a summer school or other short course involving international students
● Recent safeguarding training
● Familiarity with Salesforce or other CRMs, GSuite and Slack
