What will you be doing?
Young Urban Arts Foundation (YUAF) is seeking a dedicated Safeguarding Lead Trustee to join our Board and champion child protection within our organisation.
YUAF is committed to creating a safe environment for all young people involved in our programs. As we expand our reach and impact, we face the ongoing challenge of ensuring our safeguarding practices remain robust and up-to-date. Our goal is to maintain the highest standards of child protection while fostering an inclusive and supportive atmosphere for youth engagement in urban arts.
We’re looking for an individual with:
- Extensive experience in safeguarding or child protection
- Strong understanding of relevant laws, policies, and procedures
- Board or committee-level experience (desirable)
- Excellent leadership and communication skills
- Ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders
- Commitment to YUAF’s mission and youth empowerment
- Understanding of trauma-informed approaches to working with young people (desirable)
- Lived experience that resonates with our cause and the communities we serve (valued)
Key Responsibilities
- Leadership and Governance:
- Ensure YUAF’s operations and policies meet all legal safeguarding requirements
- Champion safeguarding throughout the organization
- Lead monthly Safeguarding Working Group meetings
- Oversee annual review of safeguarding policies and procedures
- Incident Reporting and Management:
- Support the CEO and Designated Safeguarding Lead in managing critical incidents
- Ensure proper recording and follow-up of safeguarding issues
- Review serious cases to identify learning points and improvements
- Strategic Development:
- Contribute to YUAF’s strategic plans, focusing on safeguarding best practices
- Oversee development and review of safeguarding policies and action plans
- Monitoring and Quality Assurance:
- Evaluate effectiveness of YUAF’s safeguarding measures
- Initiate internal or external audits when needed
- Training and Development:
- Support provision of safeguarding training for staff and volunteers
- Stay current with best practices and emerging trends in safeguarding
- Communication and Engagement:
- Work with leadership to manage serious safeguarding cases
- Engage with YUAF’s activities to understand on-the-ground safeguarding practices
What are we looking for?
Essential
- Extensive experience in safeguarding or child protection, with a deep understanding of relevant laws, policies, and procedures.
- Strong leadership and management skills, with the ability to coordinate safeguarding initiatives across the organization.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with various stakeholders including staff, volunteers, beneficiaries, and partner agencies.
- Understanding and accepting the legal duties, responsibilities and liabilities of Trusteeship.
- Experience of operating at Board or Committee level, either executive or non-executive
- Experience in effective, fair and impartial decision-making
- A willingness to devote the necessary time and effort to the duties of effective trusteeship
- A commitment to realising YUAF’s mission
Desirable
- Dedicated to the YUAF’s cause and objectives and willing to act as a YUAF ambassador to external bodies, charities and companies.
- Experience working with multi-agency partnerships in safeguarding contexts.
- Experience in providing or overseeing safeguarding training and development programs.
- Familiarity with quality assurance processes for monitoring safeguarding standards and practices.
- Understanding of trauma-informed approaches to working with young people.
