You will also nurture and grow your own team of social workers and practitioners using a motivational interviewing approach, which contributes to Surrey’s continued journey to “outstanding”.

About working with Safeguarding Adolescents:

Working with families predominantly with children and young people aged 12 plus whose main concern is contextual safeguarding, neglect, on the edge of care or family breakdown including beyond parental control. The Family and Adolescent Safeguarding aims to help parents tackle the challenges in their lives that impact on their parenting. The workers in the team will work with families to build on strengths and enable them to make changes so that children and young people can remain in their care. This is a strong emphasis on relationships – relationships with workers and family, relationships within families, relationships within the Family Safeguarding or Adolescent team.

Family and Adolescent Safeguarding teams share the resource of the adult mental health workers, domestic abuse practitioners and officers, and substance misuse workers. Our approach is about more than simply introducing adult workers; it is about creating a structure of truly integrated practice, this includes formal and informal group case discussion/supervision. This approach promotes the sharing of different perspectives to create a more informed understanding of how to help families and create an attainable plan to support them.

One Voice:

In Surrey, you will have a sense of belonging within your individual team but also the wider service areas and directorate. You will receive high quality supervision, as there is a firm commitment towards dedicating time that focusses on the work you do with children and families, to enable you to work creatively and holistically in providing support and protection to children whilst also paying attention to your wellbeing and career development. This creates a sense of purpose and fulfilment with a clear pathway to achieve your future aspirations.

Wherever you are in your career journey, Surrey is committed to supporting and nurturing you so that you can be the best version of yourself.
