Background

 

This role is based in the Student & Academic Services Directorate, within the Student Support Services department. You will report to the Head of Student Support Services and act as the lead student safeguarding advisor on a day to day basis, working alongside City’s Safeguarding lead and Safeguarding Officers in the Schools; ensuring consistency of safeguarding procedures across the University. You will also play a key role in the coordination and development of the online student reporting platform.

 

Responsibilities

 

You will co-ordinate the case management of student safeguarding cases, alongside the Safeguarding lead, and be responsible for case work related to sexual misconduct and other complex student welfare issues. You will liaise with Safeguarding teams within the Schools, professional services and statutory external agencies to ensure an appropriate and timely response towards students identified as at risk; maintaining appropriate records for all safeguarding cases and reports in line with GDPR regulations.

 

Person Specification

 

A clear understanding of the complexity of students in Higher Education in relation to Safeguarding procedures and Prevent Duty is required, as well as experience of working in a multi-agency safeguarding approach; managing risk effectively and escalating cases as appropriate. Knowledge of the complex areas of Safeguarding and Gender-Based Violence in an Further Education/Higher Education setting is required, along with experience of managing and implementing policy, procedures and projects and creating and delivering training to stakeholders.

An empathetic approach to working with students and staff is essential, along with excellent presentation and communication skills. The ability to manage a busy workload, complex situations and provide support to staff and students is key; as is working collaboratively. Excellent interpersonal skills, diplomacy, sensitivity and discretion will be applied to a range of audiences including in challenging circumstances.
