Job Description

Want to make a positive impact on thousands of families across the UK? This is an amazing opportunity to join our team as an NSPCC Helpline Service Head, where you will use your extensive knowledge and skills in safeguarding and child protection to ensure high-quality service delivery in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.

Why join the NSPCC Helpline? Every childhood is worth fighting for. This is our belief. It drives us. And it’s why our Helplines service never stops sharing our learning, information, advice and support with everyone who needs it. Join us as a Service Head – Helplines and help us make a contribution that makes a real difference.

The NSPCC Helpline is a place where adults can get advice or share their concerns about a child, anonymously if they wish. Across multiple sites, the Helpline receives over 400,000 contacts every year from adults, children and young people who require a professional service. At our UK-wide Helpline, our priority is to empower the public to protect children and young people. We’ve recently increased our helpline bases to the West Midlands, with the office just outside of Birmingham city centre where as Service Head – Helplines you will be based.

Using your extensive knowledge and highly developed skills in safeguarding and child protection you will help influence practice and ensure high-quality service delivery. In this role you will contribute to service, directorate and organisation-wide management forums, and provide live oversight and support in the Helpline environment as part of the duty management rota.

We are looking for someone who has significant management experience of delivering a safeguarding service who can:

  • Manage complex safeguarding and child protection issues
  • Work closely with partner agencies and stakeholders to achieve better outcomes for children.
  • Motivate a large national team of people to achieve service objectives and meet key performance indicators
  • Provide direct line management support to a group of Helpline Practice Managers.

In return we will offer you the opportunity to continue to develop your child protection expertise within a unique and highly influential national service, to work for an organisation whose core value is putting children first and you to personally make a positive impact on thousands of families across the UK.

Join us and you’ll become part of a team that cares about the work they do and the people they work with, creating a supportive environment. You’ll discover opportunities to grow, along with challenges and a shared purpose that’ll bring the best out in you. And you’ll get to find your own way to make a difference that means more, and that impacts millions of young lives.

Please note the role will be required to participate in an On-Call Management rota (1 week in 7) covering the following hours: Monday – Friday 7am to 11pm and Saturday – Sunday 7am to 7pm.

There is an option for some flexibility for home working in this position.
