Empowering Learning are supporting a group of SEN schools based across London and SE England, is working with children from KS1 – KS4 with learning needs associated to SEMH. They are seeking to appoint a Senior Vice Principal (Quality of Education) from September 2023 or sooner (Dependent on availability), on a permanent basis.

As the newly appointed Senior Vice Principal, you will be in a prominent senior leadership position, where you will be focused on strategic elements to support the Executive Principal, to maintain the consistently outstanding quality of education provided across all of the group’s schools. You will play a strategic role in ensuring the quality of education, teaching, learning and assessment across the schools within the group.

The role includes the performance management of all teachers and oversight of reports to families and annual reviews of education, health and care plans. The role also includes significant involvement in all aspects of senior leadership, including joint responsibility for referrals, admissions, placements and recruitment and promote the therapeutic approach that the group follows. You will not have a teaching responsibility but will be able to cover if/when required. You will also work from different schools on different days, in both London and Essex, as agreed with the Executive Principal.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead strategically, in association with the Executive Principal, to ensure the very best outcomes for pupils and for the company and schools in terms of placement numbers, Ofsted judgements, reputation and revenue.
  • Oversee and facilitate the required training, mentoring and coaching of teachers.
  • Work with the Senior Vice Principal (Safeguarding) and consultant therapeutic specialist to ensure the quality of therapeutic education, and integration of teaching about safety, are of the highest quality.
  • Ensure that the learning & therapeutic environment is attractive, positive, uncluttered and celebrating pupils’ progress as well as conveying key SMSC messages.
  • Facilitate high-quality and timely completion of annual reviews of pupils’ EHCPs.
  • Support and challenge all teachers, including as part of the performance management process in line with the teachers’ standards, professionally, compassionately and effectively.
  • Fulfil the role of deputy DSL.
  • Knowledge and understanding of relevant independent school standards.
  • Work with other leaders on engagement with families, the management of complaints and the schools’ approach to supporting families.
  • Support and work with the Executive Principal and CEO on strategic development of the schools, considering the business model, placements, staffing, budgets and the self-evaluation and development plan.
  • Deputise for the Executive Principal in their absence.

Salary offered: £60,000 – £70,000
