Pearson is at the forefront of online schooling and tutoring. Today, the company operates two UK curriculum full-time online private schools: Harrow School Online and Pearson Online Academy UK Global . And we are excited to have been chosen as a Tuition Partner for the Government’s national catch-up service: the National Tutoring Programme.
To support our ever-growing range of online educational services, with learners and teachers based around the world, we are looking for an ambitious, experienced and passionate Safeguarding Manager. You will be working with the DSLs in each of our online school’s/ tutoring services, providing them with best practice guidance and training, and acting as a point of escalation. You will also be sharing your safeguarding knowledge and support other Pearson ventures.

You will report to the VP of Online Learning and work closely with our Global Director of Safeguarding. The role will be rewarding and frequently challenging but you will be fully supported. We believe that this exciting role is a truly unique opportunity. You will be working at the very forefront of global online safeguarding, often working in unchartered safeguarding territory. WHAT YOUR DAYS WILL LOOK LIKE
• Coordinating with the Safeguarding Leads in Pearson’s various online schools/ services
• Assessing online safeguarding risks and developing ways to mitigate them
• Responding to serious incidents of abuse or harassment of learners
• Liaising with external safeguarding partners including (but not limited to) schools, Children’s Services, the police, and relevant government bodies in the UK and overseas
• Finding key safeguarding contacts in government bodies/ agencies in key countries around the globe, and maintaining an updated knowledge of their safeguarding requirements
• Managing and presenting metrics and preparing dashboards and executive reports as required
• Overseeing safeguarding training programmes, and delivering some
• Managing the single central register and ensuring that all staff are appropriately trained
• Developing safeguarding as a value-add to all our products and services • Understanding what customers want in relation to safeguarding
• Maintaining and updating relevant safeguarding policies and guidance documents
• Keeping up-to-date with, and implementing, new guidance, information, legislation and best practice; and ensuring that all staff are kept up-to-date.

WHAT YOU WILL NEED TO BRING TO THE ROLE
Skills & Experience
• 5+ years’ experience as a DSL or DDSL, or in a similar safeguarding leadership role such as at an NGO, sport or charity, in a setting with UK-based learners of school age
• A comprehensive understanding of UK safeguarding legislation, safeguarding issues and best practice
• A strong understanding of online risks to learners and experience in mitigating them
• Significant experience writing robust and practical safeguarding policies and procedures, and managing their successful implementation
• Experience creating and managing safeguarding training for staff
• Experience managing the delivery of safeguarding services to learners
• A UK teaching qualification. Competencies

• You will have the ability to work with tact and diplomacy in dealing with a diverse range of learners and adults
• You will be methodical, with good attention to detail and experience in meeting deadlines and delivering high quality work
• You will be a self-starter, have a positive, collaborative attitude and be flexible in your approach to work. 

WORKING HOURS AND LOCATION
The role is permanent and full-time: 37.5 hours a week. You will be working from home full-time, although there is the opportunity, COVID restrictions permitting, to work in the London office at times, if you would like.
