Within Care and Rehabilitation Services, the philosophy of our prisons is to rehabilitate offenders and equip them to re-integrate into mainstream society on release. We seek to normalise prison conditions as far as possible to reflect life in the outside community. Our aim is to create an environment in which staff and prisoners feel safe and causes of prison stress are minimised. Central to our philosophy is the relationship between staff and prisoners. Our training and operational practices emphasise the need to treat prisoners with dignity and respect and G4S staff build positive and supportive relationships with the prisoners in their care. HMP & YOI Parc accommodates 1038 convicted male adult prisoners and remand/ convicted young offenders and young people in a secure but modern environment.

We now have an exciting opportunity for a Safeguarding Manager to join our team at HMP Parc.

The successful candidate will provide professional advice, guidance and support to operational and line management in the provision of safeguarding, social care and Equalities requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide support and guidance to the Head of Safety regarding all aspects of Safeguarding, Social Care and Equalities to ensure the needs of the establishment are met.
  • Develop, review and update the establishments Safeguarding, Social Care and Complex needs strategies and ensure that necessary links with appropriate partners are built and maintained.
  • To work with the Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Manager to ensure the needs of those prisoners with protected characteristics relating to disability and age are met
  • Develop, review and update the establishments strategies for keeping vulnerable and ‘at risk’ prisoners safe.
  • Provide governance of the DIRF process to ensure it is managed effectively and appropriately and that any changes to policy/procedures required are implemented.
  • Provide assurance that the CSRA process is managed and reviewed appropriately.
  • Work collaboratively with other Safety and Residential managers to design, implement and govern interventions to enhance the support provided to residents.
  • Coach and support PCOs to maximise their performance and ensure that required standards are maintained around equalities and safeguarding.
  • Analyse and evaluate relevant information in order to identify trends so that appropriate action can be taken.
  • Conduct regular audits to ensure contractual compliance and that all departments are working in a therapeutic and resettlement focused manner.
  • Work collaboratively with the Training manager to ensure that all staff within the establishment (including partner organisations) receive the relevant level of equality, social care and safeguarding training.
  • Analyse, share and evaluate relevant information in order to identify trends so that appropriate action can be taken
  • Conduct regular audits to ensure contractual compliance and that all departments are working in a therapeutic and rehabilitative focused manner.
  • Ensure the maintenance of security within the prison environment by compliance with security instructions.
  • Oversee the effectiveness of all areas of the Safety function and report upwards any areas of concern or non-compliance.
  • Investigate and report on incidents and complaints that arise related to the function, ensuring that lessons learnt are acted upon and that operating procedures are revised accordingly.
  • Initiate and maintain links with external agencies on all relevant issues to promote and make better provision for safer custody within the prison.
  • To represent HMP Parc at senior multidisciplinary safeguarding forums, including deputising for Head of Safety in relevant circumstances
  • To build and develop effective working relationships with Senior Leaders within the NHS and Local Authority to ensure appropriate services are delivered within the prison.  This includes ensuring CDI’s are delivered by key partners in relation to health and social care services.
  • Ensure the maintenance of security within the prison environment by compliance with security instructions.
  • To co-ordinate and promote staff support services including CAST and TRiM to ensure staff are provided with high quality and effective support.
  • To work proactively with the families of prisoners who are identified as vulnerable to ensure they are involved in decision making and the individuals care where possible.
  • Assist in the promotion of creating a positive Health & Safety culture across the site leading by example, this includes reporting accidents and near misses in a timely manner & follow the applicable safe systems of work for the role.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE:

Essential Skills:

  • Experience within a custodial environment
  • Knowledge of Safeguarding and Social Care legislation.
  • Knowledge of Equality legislation.

Desirable Skills:

  • Experience of utilising various communication tools and techniques.
  • Experience of working with complex health needs.
