Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games is looking for an experienced Safeguarding Lead to support the Organising Committee’s (OC) responsibility to safeguard and promote the welfare of Children and Adults at Risk, who will form an integral part of the Games, ensuring safeguarding best practices are met and in line with government guidance and compliant with legislation and regulation.

As the Games draw closer the Safeguarding Lead will operate across multiple Functional Areas and work closely with senior management across the organisation, providing expertise, consistency and oversight in bringing the OC’s safeguarding procedures to life and monitoring them in practice, reporting directly to the Head of Inclusion and Engagement.

Responsibilities

  • Technical – responsible for ensuring that the organisation’s safeguarding policy/procedures are up to date, compliant with legislation and policy, and implemented effectively;
  • Champion and raise awareness of safeguarding measures, providing the associated training, material and advice to staff;
  • Communication – ensure that safeguarding policies and mechanisms are adequate, communicated and understood by all;
  • Advise on the development of the process and reporting mechanisms to capture incidents and allegations;
  • Lead the robust management of serious incidents and allegations, developing and managing a safeguarding risk register;
  • Provide analysis of incidents reported to identify trends and implement proactive mitigation measures where possible, providing advice to leadership where necessary.

 

Skills and Experience Required

Essential

  • Higher Education qualifications in Social Work or accredited Safeguarding qualifications at Level 5 or above;
  • Extensive experience of working in an adult, children or young person’s safeguarding function having had responsibility for policy and processes as well as delivering a safeguarding agenda;
  • Knowledge of safeguarding legislation, regulations and best practice in the UK;
  • Experience in reporting on cases and safeguarding trends to senior management;
  • Ability to achieve results through business partnering and being viewed as a trusted advisor;
  • Teamwork – Embraces diversity and displays respect and loyalty to colleagues, the organisation and partners;
  • Engages effectively, and is helpful and supportive towards others;
  • Natural communicator at all levels;
  • Open and transparent whilst maintaining trust and confidentiality;
  • Results driven – resilient and positive through change;
  • Take accountability of tasks and problems and tenacious in seeking to overcome obstacles and challenges;
  • Self-motivated and proud to be part of the Games.

Salary: Circa £47,500 per annum

This position is subject to a Basic criminal record check from the Disclosure and Barring Service.
