PLEASE NOTE: This position can be based from any one of our 9 centres across Essex. The locations of each Centres are Witham, Chelmsford, Maldon, Brentwood, Clacton, Colchester, Basildon, Rayleigh and Harlow.

This position will initially, in line with current government guidance be based from home. However, when government guidelines change the role will move to a hybrid home and office working set up.

The Opportunity:

The Safeguarding and EDI Officer will be responsible for investigating, both internally and with external partners, safeguarding issues to determine risk. Developing plans and providing expert advice to staff and learners to ensure early identification.

Adult Community Learning (ACL) is ECC’s provider of lifelong learning experiences for Essex residents. ACL offers qualifications to help people move nearer to, enter or progress within the workplace or gain skills to enhance life chances. The service focuses many of its programmes and activities on the hardest to reach communities within Essex. ACL learners have access to a diverse range of accredited and non-accredited courses which encourage creativity, healthy lifestyles, social inclusion and engagement.

You will be responsible for…

  • Responsible for investigating safeguarding issues to assess whether a risk exists.
  • Develop plans to tackle safeguarding incidents and manage cases through to completion.
  • Provide expert advice and guidance to colleagues and learners to ensure early identification of safeguarding issues and appropriate actions to be taken.
  • Liaise with external partners to investigate cases thoroughly and ensure inclusion in solutions.
  • Responsible for keeping a record of reported incidents, actions and resolutions to maintain a history for staff and learners
  • Maintain agreed quality standards in relation to Equality and Diversity, to protect both colleagues and learners.
  • Responsible for supporting the ACL service quality standards for Safeguarding and EDI, including recruitment and DBS checks.
  • Managing a staff Single Central record compliant with the requirements of Ofsted and statutory/legal requirements.
  • Support with improving staff wellbeing and creating a culture and environment that promotes positivity and motivation.
  • Specific individual and shared targets and objectives are defined annually within the performance management framework.

Skills, Knowledge and Experience:

  • Educated to RQF level 3 (A level) or equivalent by experience, possesses a Level 3 qualification in coaching/mentoring.
  • Evidence of continuing professional development and knowledge in relevant business area.
  • In depth knowledge and experience of safeguarding legislation and guidance, with the ability to deliver expert advice.
  • A thorough understanding of the principles and practice underpinning equality and diversity in relation to work with adult learners.
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills with the ability to be diplomatic and treat information confidentially.
  • Good communication skills with experience of communicating effectively with partners and service users and the ability to write robust reports relating to safeguarding matters.
