We are seeking a Registered Manager – Children’s Residential Services

Salary is up to £45,000 per annum, plus benefits

We have homes in Gloucestershire, Worcestershire and Pembrokeshire, appropriately registered with OFSTED, CQC or the CIW across the organisation and we also have SEN schools associated with Genesis.

The Vacancy

We are currently seeking an experienced Registered Manager for a new 4 bedded Children’s home for girls, in rural Gloucestershire, that is due to open summer 2023. The home will care for children and young people with complex traumatic conditions that need additional support. The organisation has achieved incredible outcomes for the young people that we look after.

This role of Registered Manager ensures we meet the Statement of Purpose, with particular emphasis on providing a person-centred therapeutic service, through delivering and improving all operational aspects of the home and developing a skilled and effective team.

This role requires a completer-finisher who will develop and manage the team, ensuring all paperwork is fully and accurately completed, and that the home itself is well presented and compliant with all regulations.

Experience in self harm, emotional behavioural difficulties and autism will serve this role well.

The commute from Gloucester, Tewkesbury, Cheltenham, Newent, Ledbury, Ross on Wye, the Forest of Dean and locations on the M50 and M5 is convenient for this particular vacancy.

About you

You will be a positive and ‘can do’ individual who has experience in management of Residential Children’s Homes, with a minimum of two years as a Registered Manager of a Children’s Residential Home.

Our ideal candidate has an appetite and proven ability to contribute to positive and exceptional achieved outcomes; a very capable person with proven ability in managing staff, operations, and most importantly putting the welfare and happiness of our children at the forefront of everything we do.

You will be familiar with working with young people in a residential setting who have suffered trauma, experience of working within an self harm environment is especially beneficial.

You will be an accomplished leader ensuring that all remain positively focused on the needs of the children.

You have a proven appetite for service and staff development, and a passion for your own growth. You will want to make the home your own and be comfortable and confident with all that this entails.

The skills and ability to work with all agencies and stakeholders, organise and administrate the required documents and regulatory paperwork, maintain occupancy, eliminate attrition, recruit great staff, keep the home on a positive financial footing and fulfil the Statement of Purpose is essential.

The role

The Registered Manager is responsible for meeting the home’s Statement of Purpose, with particular emphasis on providing a person-centred therapeutic service, through delivering and improving all operational aspects of the home and developing a skilled and effective team. The Manager will be supported at Snr Management level by a participative CEO and a Service Manager/Clinical Lead, both of whom have a wealth of experience in this specialised sector.

The Core Responsibilities will be:

  • Meet the Statement of Purposes of the Registered Home, in its entirety.
  • Deliver excellence of approach to the needs of the children and ensure the home meets regulated requirements and achieves great reports at inspections.
  • To lead in staff management, shift allocation, recruitment and selection.
  • To support and manage the staff to enable them to meet the needs of the children and young people in line with the Children’s Home Regulation
  • To organise, arrange and deliver training and induction to the team that achieves team and individual development.
  • To consistently deliver effective and timely supervision to the team.
  • To maintain positive relationships and positive interface with stakeholders, social workers and Local Authority for each child’s placement.
  • Manage placement referrals and logistics. To lead on the identification, assessment and admission of new children to the home, ensuring that effective impact risk assessments are completed.
  • To continue to assess the risk and needs of each child ensuring that we can meet their needs as individuals and within the ‘mix’ of children in the home.
  • To work with our Psychological partners to ensure that expert and informed therapeutic needs of the Young People are identified and our approach meets their needs.
  • To report to and work with the Regional Manager and Responsible Individual, as well as the Support Management in a positive and collaborative way.
  • To ensure the highest level of safeguarding in both recruitment, management of staff and children.
  • Attending childcare reviews and planning meetings to provide information and achieve best outcomes for young people
  • To provide out-of-hours and on-call services as required by the service.
  • To meet the KPI’s of the service, with specific focus on retention, referrals/ occupancy and achieved ratings whilst serving the needs of the children and young people as our ultimate focus.

Essential Qualifications and experience:

  • Level 5 Leadership and Management Social Care
  • Level 3 Children and Young People Workforce
  • 2 years as a Registered Manager
  • Experience of working with traumatised young people

Desirable Qualifications and experience:

  • 5 years within a Residential Children’s Home setting
  • Additional relevant courses and qualifications.

Pay, benefits and holidays:

  • Salary will be circa £42,000 dependent on experience, with an achievable uplift to £45,000 upon successful management of occupancy, attrition and maintaining rating.
  • Monday-Friday 9-5 + on call and some shift support if needed.
