The successful applicant will work with identified pupils within the school’s inclusion support provision and applicants should have experience in supporting pupils with social and emotional needs.

Key duties included the delivery and evaluation of both 1:1 and group work programmes as part of a planned approach to supporting children with social emotional and behavioural difficulties and their engagement and attainment within school. This will included the planning and preparation of materials.

The successful candidate will liaise and work with families and other agencies to support the overall wellbeing of pupils.

Musselburgh Grammar School serves the town of Musselburgh and the surrounding villages of Wallyford and Whitecraig. The community is strong in Musselburgh and there is loyalty attached to the local Grammar School. We have approximately 1,100 pupils ranging in age from 12 to 18 and over 100 staff in total. The vision of the school is ‘to become one of the best schools in Scotland.’ This has resonated with all stakeholders and is consistent with the school motto of ‘Striving for Excellence – Caring for All.’

Musselburgh is the largest town in East Lothian, has easy access to the City Bypass and is 5 miles East of Edinburgh city centre.

Job Details

As part of the Pupil Support Team, provide support to secondary aged pupils (including Pupil Support Base) with a range of social emotional and behavioural difficulties in accordance with agreed aims, objectives and standards.

Job Requirements

Relevant Qualifications
A minimum of SVQ1/Standard Grade General level English/Maths or National 4
English/Maths or Literacy/Numeracy or Intermediate 1 Communication/Numeracy and/or able to demonstrate equivalent knowledge, skills and competencies gained through relevant experience.

PVG Membership
This post is considered as Regulated Work with vulnerable children and/or protected adults, as specified in the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007.

All preferred candidates for posts carrying out regulated work with these groups will be required to become a PVG Scheme member, or undergo a PVG Scheme update if they are already a member, prior to any formal offer of employment being made by East Lothian Council.
