Job Description

In Kirklees our services to children and young people are the heart of the Council’s vision and we are investing accordingly. Our ambition is to deliver long-term change with pace, determination, and innovation, so that our services are outstanding. Together with key partners we are developing responsive, child focused, and flexible services and we have established track record of delivering sustained service improvements.

A critical Children’s Service safeguarding priority is to ensure that allegations or concerns relating to adults who work or volunteer with children are overseen and responded to in timely and professional manner. We are therefore looking to expand our Local Designated Officer capacity, to work across the children’s partnership to enable best practice in Allegations Management.

As a Designated Officer you will provide high quality management oversight of investigations relating to adults who work with children, providing advice, guidance, and high support and challenge to practitioners, managers, and employers in the local authority and across the district. You will also have responsibility to develop and promote Allegations Management policies, guidance, and practice across Children’s Services, the local authority, and the wider safeguarding partnership.

The Designated Officer role is integral to our inspection and Quality Assurance frameworks, and you will be expected to present quality assurance and performance data and share learning with a variety of audiences, including senior leaders.

We are looking for an experienced social work professional who has post qualifying experience of working in child protection and of chairing complex multi-agency safeguarding meetings. Who has a strong understanding of what best practice looks like and is passionate about improving the lives of children. A creative and flexible approach and good people skills are also essential.

We want to make sure that as a skilled practitioner in Kirklees you have everything you need to deliver good outcomes. Our commitment to you is to provide you with a comprehensive induction programme, dedicated supervision, and continuous professional development opportunities, to enable you to become the best you can be.

You must hold a recognised Social Work Qualification and be registered with Social Work England.
