The Bishop of Lincoln is seeking an individual with expertise to fulfil the role of Independent Chair for our Diocesan Safeguarding Advisory Panel (DSAP).
DSAP is an oversight and audit group, ensuring that Safeguarding for the Church of England in the Diocese of Lincoln, including the Cathedral, is on the correct course and accountability is maintained for all officers. It provides independent scrutiny of safeguarding practice and policy in the diocese. The Diocese of Lincoln is the largest non-statutory provider of services for children and vulnerable adults in Greater Lincolnshire.
The role of Independent DSAP Chair is, therefore, a valued and respected position of responsibility, supporting and encouraging as appropriate, but also providing challenge where necessary. The appointment of an Independent Chair shows the commitment of the Church to ensuring that safeguarding is handled in a transparent and professional way.
The diocese is building on significant improvements on safeguarding over recent years and is a ‘Pathfinder’ diocese, along with the Cathedral, piloting a number of recommendations coming from the Independent Inquiry into Child Sexual Abuse in the Church of England and Wales (IICSA). Furthermore, having just undergone a police investigation into non-recent incidents under Operation Redstone and completed our Past Cases Review 2, we are entering a new chapter of learning and implementation.
We are looking for a robust and rigorous individual with a forward vision to lead the Diocese and Cathedral into this next chapter where prevention can be championed. The Diocese is working to improve the diversity of its clergy, staff and volunteers. So, interest from members of traditionally underrepresented groups is welcome.
