We have an exciting opportunity for a Head of Safeguarding to join our team based in Gilwell Park, Chingford, London with UK Travel. We will offer you a competitive salary of £65,000 – £70,000 per annum

The Head of Safeguarding Role:

The safety of young people in scouting is our number one priority and is the golden thread throughout the organisation. As the Head of Safeguarding, you’ll lead the Scouts’ safeguarding function in respect of both its employed staff, volunteers and young people; and to develop and implement formal strategies to continue to improve safeguarding in scouting.

The Safe Scouting Department are responsible for delivering the safeguarding function across the Scouts throughout the UK. This includes responding to safeguarding and welfare concerns or allegations, leading on Safer Recruitment and the Scouts’ national vetting process.

We’ve already made a lot of changes in the way we work and recently reviewed the existing team, making a significant investment in strengthening our approach to safeguarding in scouting which has lead to the creation of this new senior role. So it’s a perfect time to join the service and have a big influence on making improvements to the support we provide, leading further developments in the delivery of Safeguarding across the organisation and throughout the scouting movement.

Key responsibilities as our Head of Safeguarding:

  • As a senior member of the Safe Scouting department, contribute to the wider strategic and operational plans for safety and safeguarding
  • Working closely with senior volunteers.
  • Ensure the service is a trusted point of contact for volunteers and staff seeking guidance
  • Proactively develop appropriate rules, policies and guidance
  • Establish and implement an effective quality assurance framework
  • Prepare reports for the Safeguarding committee on matters of safeguarding

What we are looking for in our Head of Safeguarding:

  • Extensive senior level professional experience in safeguarding management.
  • Experience of implementing safeguarding policies and good practice for volunteers
  • Extensive experience of managing a large safeguarding function
  • Experience of designing and using quality assurance systems to support improvements in safeguarding
  • Experience of designing safeguarding policy
  • Extensive knowledge of safeguarding legislation, law and good practice
  • Knowledge of the work of national safeguarding regulatory and training bodies
