SEL CCG is delighted to advertise the post of Head of Safeguarding  & Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) Governance and Assurance.

The SEL CCG Accountable Officer is ultimately accountable for the statutory functions of Safeguarding and SEND accountability.  The Chief Nurse has Executive Governing Body responsibility for safeguarding including Children Looked After and SEND and for ensuring the CCG is delivery against its statutory duties.  The Head of Safeguarding & SEND Governance and Assurance will support the delivery of these statutory duties and ensure SEL CCG’s compliance.

The post holder will have previous experience of managing and providing SEND and Safeguarding leadership as part of a portfolio of responsibilities  and be able to provide a strategic approach to the delivery and assurance of these statutory functions across the six boroughs.

The post holder will work with the Directors of Quality and the Chief Nurse to support the development of the newly established Nursing and Quality Directorate with the aim of providing leadership for  Safeguarding and SEND across South East London CCG.

The post holder will work closely with the Borough Designated Professionals (Drs & nurses) for safeguarding and CLA, Named GPs and SEND DMO/DCO leads,the SEL CCG Director of Quality  ensuring appropriate assurance and escalations to Borough Directors and the Chief Nurse.

Organisational Context

NHS South East London Clinical Commissioning Group is the statutory body responsible for commissioning healthcare services to south east London’s 1.9 million residents of the boroughs of Bexley, Bromley, Greenwich, Lambeth, Lewisham and Southwark.

The CCG buys services from hospitals, ambulance service and community service providers. South East London CCG covers all GP practices in the area and is overseen by a governing body, which is responsible for making decisions about healthcare.

The Chief Nurse leads the Quality and Nursing Directorate of the SEL CCG.  This directorate is responsibilie for the delivery of a number of statutory and non statutory functions of the SEL CCG working with the 6 boroughs that comprise the CCG and its partners and sakeholders.  Safeguarding and SEND are included in the staturoy duties the directorate is responsible for.


South East London CCG reserves the right to close this post early if there is an overwhelming response.
