Embedding diversity, equality and inclusion into all that we do is an essential ingredient for success. If we are to be effective in tackling crime and anti-social behaviour, protecting the vulnerable, bringing offenders to justice, and making West Yorkshire safe and feeling safer, we must enjoy the trust and confidence of our diverse communities. National research highlights a disparity that we must tackle in how we engage and involve people from our diverse communities and the justice outcomes delivered to them.
The Head of Diversity, Equality and Inclusion plays a key role in the ambitions of West Yorkshire Police to deliver on this vital agenda. You will lead on the co-ordination of delivery against the Force Diversity, Equality and Inclusion Strategy, and associated action plans, maintaining a constant profile across the organisation and representing the Force nationally with regard to DEI.
You will have recent experience of performing a lead DEI role, including the provision of an advisory function to the organisation’s senior leaders, and holding the over-arching responsibility for ensuring compliance with equality legislation and statutory duties.
You will provide leadership to two teams:
1. Specialist DEI Team who provide expert advice/guidance on DEI, ensure compliance, and design and deliver DEI projects.
2. Positive Action Team who oversee and deliver a progressive approach to readdressing workforce under-representation in attraction, recruitment, retention and progression.
We are seeking a corporately credible and highly impactive specialist practitioner who will demonstrate clear passion for the challenge, and who can play a pivotal role in continuing to drive the Force throughout its DEI journey.
