Hours: Full time (8am-4pm, Monday, Wednesday to Friday, 8am-5pm on Tuesdays) term time only

 

Start date: January 2023 (or sooner if possible)

 

This role, based within the School Leadership Team, ensures compliance across a range of duties, including Safeguarding, Health and Safety, Facilities and Maintenance, Data Protection and Quality Assurance. Whilst there are staff who carry out the main duties above, this role draws together the overall accountability of these areas of school compliance.

 

Main Duties

 

Leadership & Strategy

  • As part of the leadership team, provide relevant reports for internal meetings, monitoring visits by stakeholders and collate the report for Governance; coordinate and plan meetings as and when required with different stakeholders.
  • Plan, coordinate and manage change in accordance with the school’s development plan, including forward planning, term dates, training days and whole-year strategies.
  • Lead and manage designated supervisees and hold accountability for Safeguarding across the school (including specified areas such as Online Safety and Prevent Duty).
  • Ensure compliance with DfE, Ofsted, Independent Schools’ Standards (ISS), National Minimum Standards (NMS) and any relevant ASC specific regulations.

 

DSL Responsibilities

  • DSL responsibilities would be those detailed in the most recent version of Keeping Children Safe in Education and would also be referred to in the schools Safeguarding and child protection policy.
  • The school has a team of Designated Staff for Safeguarding, including a Deputy DSL, and this role would hold accountability for Safeguarding and Child Protection within the school and oversight and management of the team and the school’s Safeguarding processes

 

Compliance

  • Work together with the Administration Manager to design and maintain the administrative systems that deliver outcomes based on the school’s aims and goals, including the SCR and other statutory documents relating to Safer recruitment.
  • Ensure the routine review and update of school policies and procedures.
  • Ensure all necessary stakeholders have a clear understanding of the policies and procedures and the importance of putting them into practice.
  • Prepare information for publications and returns for the DfE, Local Authorities and other agencies and stakeholders within statutory guidelines.
  • Be responsible for the communication of the school’s equality policy to all staff in school.
  • Work with the HR Administrator and Administration Manager to ensure compliance with training regulations in relation to regulatory updates.
  • Oversee the school’s Data Protection and manage the administration process in relation to Subject Access Requests and Data Breaches (GDPR)

 

Facility & Property Management and Health & Safety

  • Ensure the safe maintenance and security operation of all school premises ensuring a secure environment in which learning processes can be provided for all stakeholders.
  • Line-manage the Site Manager and support decision-making relating to the maintenance of the school site including the purchase and repair of all furniture and fittings and contracted work.
  • Ensure ancillary services e.g. catering, cleaning, etc., are monitored and managed effectively and that contracts are in the best interests of learners and financial pragmatism.
  • To act as the school’s Health & Safety Coordinator, which would involve supporting the Site team in planning, instigating and maintaining records of fire practices and alarm tests.
  • Ensure the school’s written health & safety policy statement is clearly communicated and available to all people and that it is implemented, put into practice and subject to review and assessment at regular intervals or as situations change.
  • To be responsible for the training of staff for all H&S aspects, including the risk assessment process.
  • Ensure systems are in place for effective monitoring, measuring and reporting of health and safety issues to the Senior Team, Governors and where appropriate the Health & Safety Executive
  • To undertake such other duties and responsibilities that may be required from time to time.
