Job Title: Family Support Manager

Hours: 28 hours per week

Salary: £32,680 per annum (£40,850 FTE)

Location: Finchley, London Borough of Barnet with regular travel to Harrow and Brent

Home-Start Barnet is committed to promoting the welfare of families with young children to ensure that they have the best start in life. Our team of volunteers support families experiencing difficulties by visiting them regularly in their own homes and offering them friendship, emotional and practical help.

We are recruiting Family Support Manager to oversee our services in Brent and Harrow. The post holder will ensure that Home-Start provides targeted, specialised support to families with children under the age of 5 years, including some work with expecting parents who may be experiencing poor mental health.

The Family Support Manager will build on our existing work and our relationships in Brent and Harrow to deliver a volunteer-led home-visiting service and related activities to local families. This will require a good working knowledge of the boroughs, community partners and agencies.

About the Role

The Family Support Manager is a member of the Management Team. They will manage a team of Family Support Coordinators and project staff in the London Boroughs of Harrow and Brent, ensuring that our services are delivered efficiently and effectively, and in accordance with Home-Start’s core values. Alongside the management of a staff team, they will lead on the service development in Brent and Harrow, developing and nurturing relationships with stakeholders within the voluntary sector as well as with statutory services.

Main Responsibilities

Service Management & Reporting

  • Manage staff performance against the delivery of set objectives
  • Complete project monitoring and evaluation requirements for funders, relevant to family support in respective boroughs, including written case studies as evidence of the effectiveness of individual interventions
  • Take responsibility for a small caseload, supporting the more complex cases/situations presenting within the service and those with multiple needs
  • Attend Team around the Family/Child and multi- agency meetings as necessary to support families and take on the role of Lead Professional when appropriate.

Business Development and Partnerships

  • Lead on marketing and development of HSB services across Harrow and Brent, developing new partnerships and raising HSB’s profile
  • Attend forums to disseminate knowledge of HSB’s work by delivering presentations and promoting our services.
  • Represent HSB at meetings with other organisations and agencies with shared interests in the area of family services, to ensure there is co-ordination of activities and that HSB’s viewpoints and concerns are appropriately communicated and represented.

Workforce Development & Safeguarding

  • Manage the Trainee Programme, recruiting and training up home-visiting volunteers to become Family Support Coordinators
  • Work closely with the Practice Educator to oversee social work student placements
  • Support the design and delivery of the volunteer preparation course.
  • Work closely alongside the Head of Family Services, to ensure compliance in day-to-day operations and ensure the organisation works to HSB’s safeguarding procedures
  • Working alongside the Training Manager, Volunteer Manager and Head of Family Services, ensure that staff and volunteers receive ongoing safeguarding training and support
  • Be the Deputy Designated Safeguarding Person for HSB
  • Comply with HSB’s standards of information governance, data security and protection, and documented systems and procedures.
