Job Description

JOB PURPOSE:
To support children and young people aged 10-17 on the edge of care and reunification back to their families. To maintain safe permanence of children and young people within their own families, kinship placements, of any legal status, including foster carers /adoptive parents and within their own communities.

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:
-NNEB/BTEC/NVQ level 3 in relevant child care subject
-Relevant paid or unpaid experience of working with young people within a social care setting or similar.
-Providing support services to young people and/or unaccompanied and refugee young people building on strengths of the child/young person/family.
-Childcare legislation, Safeguarding procedures, policies and procedures
-Framework for the Assessment of Children in Need and their Families
-Attachment, Trauma based practice and other relevant models
-Awareness of the cultural, racial, linguistic and religious background of children, young people and families.
-The needs of older children on the cusp of care and knowledge/skills in managing family breakdown.
-Understanding of the Signs of Safety Methodology and evidence-based practice
-Strong communication skills to work openly and honestly with children, young people, and families
-Able to produce clear, accurate records and reports
-Able to communicate clearly and accurately, orally and in writing, with a wide range of people, including representatives from other agencies, using skills of negotiation and persuasion.
-Able to work effectively as a team member
-Commitment to continuing Professional Development
-Able to use information technology applications e.g. Microsoft Outlook, Word and database applications as relevant to the department.
