Director of Safeguarding
Reporting to: Chief Executive-Chief Inspector
Direct reports: Safeguarding Officer

Job Description
The post-holder will bring significant safeguarding experience and in-depth knowledge of relevant
legislation, policy, procedures and good practice regarding children and young people.
 Lead safeguarding knowledge, understanding and application across inspection remits
 Work closely with colleagues and external stakeholders to ensure excellent and up-to-date
understanding and application of safeguarding requirements on inspection
 Lead and maintaining ISI safeguarding policy and ensure this is applied appropriately
throughout our activities
 Liaise with the Department for Education on referral of all concerns, including those relating
to safeguarding
 Liaise with external organisations and agencies on communication of concerns and the
promotion of understanding of ISI’s work as an inspectorate
 Develop relationships with other inspectorates to share best practice, support and enhance
the impact of ISI inspection of safeguarding
 Work closely with the ISI Director of Training and Quality Assurance to produce and deliver
safeguarding training for inspectors
 Advise the Board, ISI senior leadership and inspectors on all matters relating to safeguarding
 Contribute to data collection and reporting by ISI on safeguarding and inspection

Person specification
 Deep understanding and experience of safeguarding principles and effective practice
 Up-to-date and deep working knowledge of statutory requirements concerning safeguarding
 School inspection experience, preferably across both maintained and independent schools
 Excellent people skills and relationship management
 Highly organised
 Demonstrable ability to work across multiple projects and teams
 Ability to respond calmly and proportionately in demanding circumstances
 Proven track record of excellent judgement in challenging, high-pressure situations
 Commitment to put the safety and well-bring of children first at all times
 Demonstrable knowledge and understanding of the Independent School Standards and how
to apply them
