We are looking for a Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) to join Targeted Provision on a permanent and hybrid basis, leading on safeguarding and child protection processes for our learners as part of our mission to raise the minimum standard of support offered to the UK’s vulnerable children and young people.
At Targeted Provision our mission is to raise the standard of educational support offered to vulnerable young people in the UK.
We work with schools and local authorities to provide specialist tutors and mentors for children and young people with additional educational needs.
We also support mentoring and engagement / re-engagement for young people in need of Alternative Provision. We believe that with the right support and role model in their lives, every child can grow in confidence and succeed in learning.

The Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) role
We pride ourselves on providing the highest level of safeguarding for our children and young people. We work exclusively with vulnerable learners, and it is crucial that we maintain the highest standard of safeguarding and child protection for those young people receiving our support. This role is a crucial element of ensuring that our child-centred approach is of the highest quality.
Responsibilities:
- To lead on the implementation of Targeted Provision’s child protection and safeguarding policies and procedures, including responding to concerns or allegations of abuse, managing referrals, and liaising with external agencies such as social services or the police.
- To lead on Targeted Provision’s response to serious safeguarding incidents, ensuring that appropriate action is taken and that all relevant parties are informed.
- To maintain accurate and confidential records of safeguarding concerns and referrals, ensuring they are securely stored in line with data protection requirements.
- To act as the main point of contact for external agencies regarding safeguarding and child protection.
- To ensure that Targeted Provision’s safeguarding policies and procedures are up-to-date, reviewed regularly, and accessible to all team members.
- To provide advice and support to team members on child protection and safeguarding matters.
- To ensure that all team members are aware of their responsibilities and trained appropriately in relation to safeguarding children and young people.
- To develop and deliver safeguarding and child protection training to team members.
- To contribute to the development and implementation of Targeted Provision’s wider safeguarding strategy, ensuring that it reflects best practice and is reviewed regularly.
- Working outside of your working hours to respond to safeguarding concerns that are reported outside of 9am – 6pm.
You
We are looking for someone who is passionate about making a difference in the lives of vulnerable children and young people. You will be experienced in the Alternative Provision space, with a proven track record of child-centredness and ensuring the vulnerable learners are safeguarded to the highest standard.
Required:
- Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) certification.
- Previous experience as a Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL).
- Excellent knowledge of child protection and safeguarding legislation, guidance, and best practice.
- Excellent organisational skills, with the ability to manage a varied workload and work under pressure.
- An excellent eye for detail.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
- The ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Desirable
- Experience using Trello, Airtable, Front or similar CRMs
- Experience within a small and fast-paced team
- Experience in a customer facing role
