Job Description

First Light is a charity supporting people in Cornwall, Devon and Wiltshire who have been affected by domestic abuse and sexual violence. We are independent of statutory agencies, including the Police, and every year we help thousands of adults and children in the South West to lead safer lives, free from violence and abuse.

First Light has partnered with Barnardo’s in Cornwall to deliver the county-wide Domestic Abuse and Sexual Violence Service – Safer Futures. A full-time vacancy has arisen for a Children and Young Persons IDVA role, on a fixed term contract for a period of 12 months, due to expansion within the service. We are looking for people who are highly motivated, willing, flexible and able to work unsupervised on a day to day basis but also as part of a team . The post holder will work closely with all members of the integrated service.

The role of CYPIDVA will be to provide a pro-active service to children and young people who are victims of domestic abuse to keep them safe; providing a premium service to those assessed at highest risk. The post holder will work pro-actively within a multi-agency setting (including MARAC & MARU) to develop comprehensive safety and support plans to help keep victims safe. Key to the success of this role is the use of advocacy and partnership working skills to develop a network of agencies, professionals and forums that will identify and refer cases.

The CYPIDVA will act as a champion for young people raising awareness of the severity of the abuse young people experience and the sources of support available across Cornwall.

The post holder will also provide a pro-active service to adult victims of domestic abuse to keep them safe, working within a multi-agency setting (including MARAC) to develop comprehensive safety and support plans to help keep victims safe.

Candidates will have sound knowledge of the impact of domestic violence on victims and children and experience of multi–agency working to support a victim’s safety and future development. It is expected that candidates will have experience of direct work with victims of domestic abuse at a crisis stage, of conducting risk assessments and of managing the safety planning process.

Candidates must also have knowledge of child and adult safeguarding procedures and an understanding and commitment to the Equality, Diversity & Human Rights agenda.

Added benefits:
