The Reading FC Community Trust are looking to employ a Safeguarding Lead Officer for a 12 month fixed term period, with the possibility of a permanent contract. The role is for 14 hours a week, split evenly into 2 days.

Reports to: Reading FC Community Trust Manager
Job Purpose:
The post holder will contribute to the achievement of the aims and objectives of Reading FC Community Trust:
- · To safeguard and promote the welfare of children and young people and ensure all staff, volunteers, parents, and participants understand their role in safeguarding children and young players.
- · Report and refer child protection and/or poor practice complaints in line with policy guidance advised by the EFLT, PLCF and The Football Association.
- · Deal with any complaints about poor practice in line with the Trust’s Safeguarding Complaints Procedure.
- · Keep records of any incidents relating to the welfare of a child.
- · Identify the Trust safeguarding training needs and facilitate or deliver training to ensure all staff/volunteers undertake training appropriate to their work with children.
- · Ensure all staff/volunteers working with children (appropriate to their role) have an enhanced DBS check clearance for work in the Reading FC Community Trust which are regularly updated in line with EFLT, PLCF and FA guidance.
- · Ensure the Trust has in place appropriate policies and procedures for identifying and reporting concerns or disclosures related to child protection.
- · Disseminate to all staff working with children, up-to-date legislative and good practice requirements in relation to safeguarding children.
- To follow the Trust’s Safeguarding policies and procedures, with the welfare of Children, young people and vulnerable adults being of paramount importance.
The nature of the role will involve the individual having a practical, hard-working, and innovative approach to delivering a high-class level of service ensuring young people on the Trust can participate in a safe and secure environment
The successful applicant will therefore be required to apply from the Criminal records Bureau (CRB). A disclosure is an impartial and confidential document that details an individual’s criminal record and where appropriate gives details of those who are banned from working with children.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
As a key member of the Community Trust the post holder will:
- · Play a key role in liaising with The English Football League Trust (EFLT) the Premier League Community Trust (PLCF) and the FA to safeguard children involved with the Community Trust
- · Manage any appropriate data-base systems related to safeguarding children in line with Data Protection Legislation – MyConcern Safeguarding software or similar
- · Respond to requests from the EFLT, PLCF or FA in relation to information or enquiries regarding safeguarding children involved with the Trust.
- · Facilitate or deliver safeguarding targeted trainings for staff appropriate to their work with children and young people and keep a record of staff development.
- · Monitor statistics in relation to instances of poor practice and/or child protection and report through the Trust reporting procedures.
- · Represent Community Trust at safeguarding workshops or training delivered by the EFLT, PLCF, FA or other specified training agencies.
- · Take a lead role in raising the profile of safeguarding children both within the Trust and with external or partner agencies.
- · Manage any budget related to the post.
- · Attend training and demonstrate continued professional development
- Work in partnership with the Safeguarding Trustee, keeping the Board informed, providing reports regarding incidents ·
- Ensure your DBS remains up to date by renewing it every 3 years, as well as ensuring all training requirements for your role are up to date.
Skills and Abilities:
- Child and Young people approach
- Experience: 2+ years working within a similar role
- Knowledge of the National Framework for Safeguarding
- Communication and record keeping skills with excellent attention to details
- High level of confidentiality and resilience in handling emotional challenging situations are essential
- · Administrative and computer skills especially Microsoft Office package
- · Have experience of providing effective child protection and safeguarding services
- · Be proactive and able to work under pressure
- · Lead a safeguarding agenda across the Trust
- · Ability to promote the organisation’s policies, procedures, and resources
Preferable:
- Trained safeguarding to Level 2 or above
- Clean UK driving licence with ability to commute to and from work independently
