📍 Online

Course outline:

This one-day certification programme is designed for school nurses and aligned with the Intercollegiate Guidance 2019 (level 3) and Annex C of Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE). It supports school nurses across state, independent, international, and boarding schools, including those who serve as Designated or Deputy Designated Safeguarding Leads (DSLs).

Delivered by experienced health and safeguarding professionals, the course uses real-world clinical case studies and evidence-based content tailored to the school nursing context.

By the end of the programme, delegates will have a clear understanding of their responsibilities as safeguarding leaders and increased confidence in addressing a wide range of complex safeguarding issues. They will be better equipped to navigate referral processes and collaborate effectively with multi-agency partners. This training also provides certification that meets level 3 safeguarding requirements for both clinicians and those serving as safeguarding leads within educational settings.

Training topics will include:

  • Roles of school nurses and safeguarding leads
  • Legal and regulatory updates
  • Listening to children and safer organisational culture
  • Trauma, SEND, and vulnerabilities
  • Recognising abuse and contemporary safeguarding risks (e.g. FGM, exploitation, e-safety)
  • Multi-agency working and information sharing.

Learning outcomes:

  • Identify and respond to all forms of abuse and neglect
  • Conduct risk and harm assessments
  • Communicate effectively with children and advocate for their involvement
  • Make informed safeguarding decisions and escalate when necessary
  • Contribute to and lead multi-agency plans and peer reviews
  • Apply learning from serious case reviews to improve practice.

This programme is also available on a consultancy basis. Some tailoring of programme materials for specific organisational contexts is part of a consultancy package.
