Introduction to safeguarding

Course outline:

Updated for Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE) 2023. A certificate of attendance is available.

This training is a vital safeguarding refresher for those working with children but who are not themselves the Designated Safeguarding Lead. This course has been updated to include amendments to new statutory guidance, standards and lessons learned from recent reviews.

This programme is also available on a consultancy basis delivered face to face or online.

Training topics will include:

  • Legal framework
  • Signs and symptoms of abuse
  • Specific forms of abuse including:
  • Child Sexual Exploitation and Child Criminal Exploitation
  • Grooming (including online)
  • Child-on-Child Abuse
  • County Lines
  • Prevent
  • Identifying, recording and reporting abuse
  • When are you vulnerable?

Learning outcomes:

  • Increased knowledge of how to safeguard and promote the welfare of children
  • Improved awareness of signs and symptoms of abuse
  • Promote understanding of specific forms of abuse
  • Know what to do and how to report and record any concerns.

Claire Dan, Director of Safeguarding and Director, Sacpa

Claire is Director of Safeguarding and Director, Sacpa and leads on the provision of safeguarding advice and support to members and the development and delivery of CPD and safeguarding consultancy services. Claire is a safeguarding specialist and leader with a background in education welfare, youth justice, and early help contexts which have involved a strong focus on diverse and collaborative partnerships, professional development and supervision of front-line safeguarding colleagues, and leading multi-disciplinary teams and projects. Between 2006 and 2013 Claire was involved with Luton Safeguarding Children Board as a lead multi-agency safeguarding trainer, developing and delivering single and multi-agency safeguarding training, and since 2013 has delivered pieces of bespoke consultancy work, and providing a range of safeguarding consultancy on a freelance basis.
