SUMMARY:Where Gambling and Gaming Meet
DESCRIPTION:🏷️ From £90📍 Online 🎥 Watch live or on catch up \n\nCourse outline: \nRecent media reports have highlighted that a student in every secondary class has a gambling issue. Gambling continues to be promoted to children and young adults by some role models despite reported rises in gambling addictions and their mental health impact. The mechanisms used in some games such as loot boxes see a blurred line with gambling\, which is also reflected in this session. In the online world\, gambling sites play their part in drawing in children and young people and in a recent report The Children’s Commissioner for England commented that ‘We’ll look back in 20 years and be horrified by what our children were exposed to’. \nThis webinar aims to provide raised awareness of gaming and gambling. Our expert speakers discuss why this safeguarding issue is a growing concern and how to talk to children about this and access help and support. \nTraining topics will include: \n\nWhy gaming and gambling harms are a growing concern\nHow to access help and support\nHow to start conversations\n\nLearning outcomes: \n\nThe work of Ygam.org\nWhy gaming and gambling harms are a growing concern\nHow to access help and support\nHow to start conversations\n\nBOOK NOW \n\nSpeaker: Patrick Foster\, Director of Gam-Ed \nPatrick Foster is a former professional cricketer\, insurance broker and schoolteacher whose life was shattered by a pathological gambling addiction that brought him to the verge of taking his own life in March 2018. \nUsing his experience\, he works with schools\, companies and individuals\, young and old\, raising awareness of the dangers of gambling and associated risk-taking behaviours. By sharing his own story\, he hopes to help others identify if they\, or someone around them\, are experiencing addiction or mental health problems and inspire them to reach out for help. \nPatrick is an ambassador for the Mintridge Foundation\, a registered charity dedicated to enhancing life skills in young people through sport\, building resilience and confidence through sport\, and creating awareness of the importance of mental and physical wellbeing. \nHe is the author of bestselling book Might Bite: The Secret Life of a Gambling Addict\, his brutally honest account of over a decade of pathological gambling addiction to recovery and beyond. \n*If you would like to become a member and access discounted rates for Sacpa CPD and events\, please click here.
