SUMMARY:The SACPA Advanced Certificate in Child Safeguarding Practice

Students will be encouraged to contribute ideas\, opinions and questions\, taking responsibility for their own learning\, whilst contributing to the learning of the group as a whole. \nThe course is run by senior members of the SACPA staff.  Each delegate will have an experienced SACPA Tutor who attends the study days. \nCourse Assessment \nDelegates may choose assessment via portfolio or assignment. \n \nCourse Lead: Claire Dan \nClaire is Director of Safeguarding and Director\, Sacpa and leads on the provision of safeguarding advice and support to members and the development and delivery of CPD and safeguarding consultancy services. Claire is a safeguarding specialist and leader with a background in education welfare\, youth justice\, and early help contexts which have involved a strong focus on diverse and collaborative partnerships\, professional development and supervision of front-line safeguarding colleagues\, and leading multi-disciplinary teams and projects. Between 2006 and 2013 Claire was involved with Luton Safeguarding Children Board as a lead multi-agency safeguarding trainer\, developing and delivering single and multi-agency safeguarding training\, and since 2013 has delivered pieces of bespoke consultancy work\, and providing a range of safeguarding consultancy on a freelance basis. \n \nDale Wilkins : Senior Director BSA Group \nDale Wilkins spent 31 years working in schools\, mainly in residential education\, of which eleven years were as safeguarding lead. He has also had safeguarding responsibilities in youth group\, sports and church settings\, was a multi-agency safeguarding trainer for Dudley Safeguarding Children Board and has completed an extensive “Train the Trainer” course with NSPCC. In September 2017 he took over safeguarding responsibilities at BSA\, and subsequently BSA Group and Sacpa. HE also gave evidence to the IICSA inquiry on behalf of BSA. \nDay 2 Speaker: \nJulian Whiting \nJulian is a freelance business development specialist with a particular focus on construction for Schools\, Colleges and commercial buildings. He also works with Kingdom Living who have a mission to deliver quality ‘Affordable’ Affordable Housing nationwide. He is a retired police officer and has immense knowledge of the law and legal system together with over 20 years’ experience in business and event facilitation. Julian is creative at networking and making things happen. He has worked in the voluntary sector with NAPAC\, JIGSAW4U\, MACSAS\, The Besom Trust and Cheer Trust advising and supporting children and families especially in church circles. He is passionate about truth and justice and likes to help others achieve closure with difficult cases. He is passionate about raising standards and keen to share his experiences with individuals and organisations to help make places safer for children and vulnerable adults. \nDay 3 Speaker \nNikki Holmes : Safer Together\nContextual Safeguarding and Exploitation \nNikki has served as a police officer\, been a service manager for a young person’ substance misuse service\, is an experienced Children’s Services Inspector for the CQC\, and more recently launched her own consultancy Safer Together www.safer-together.co.uk\, which is a proud member of the WeProtect Global Alliance. \nAn expert in safeguarding with expertise and extensive experience of working in the fields of Child Exploitation\, County Lines and Modern Slavery\, Nikki now provides independent consultancy and training to a range of organisations including the NHS and Local Authorities. \nNikki is also a guest lecturer\, a public speaker and an independent author of Child Safeguarding Practice Reviews\, Safeguarding Adult Reviews and Domestic Homicide Reviews. \nDay 4 Speaker \nDez Holmes : Director\, Research in Practice\nDez Holmes is the Director of Research in Practice\, a not-for-profit organisation that since 1996 has been supporting those who work with children\, families and adults to use evidence\nin their practice and leadership. Dez has several years’ experience of training and workforce and leadership development; she is the Programme Director for the Practice Supervisor Development Programme. Her practice experience is largely within youth offending services and early help. DESCRIPTION:Course outline: \nThis programme is also available on a consultancy basis delivered face to face. \nThis Safer Recruitment Consortium accredited training course is the widely accepted UK standard for safer recruitment recognised by the government. Statutory Guidance outlines that at least one member of every appointment panel for roles involving work with children must undertake ‘proper’ safe recruitment training. \nThe Safer Recruitment Consortium has developed a Safer Recruitment package for the wider children’s workforce (this course) where previously this was solely aimed at those in the education sector. She has worked in education for nearly 25 years\, mostly within boarding leadership and safeguarding. She is Chair of a Special Interest Group on Gender Dysphoria for the Association of Child Protection Professionals and has founded a cluster group to support DSLs in independent schools in Essex. In addition\, she does safeguarding consultancy work and is a trained supervisor.

DESCRIPTION:Overview \nThis session is for colleagues with an interest in joining Sacpa Membership. \nThe session includes a brief 10-minute review of what Sacpa has to offer to members then there will be an opportunity to ask questions. \nYou can also meet some of your other colleagues who are also interested in joining Sacpa – an association where all safeguarding professionals can come together for mutual support\, development and pursuit of excellence. \nBriefings about membership are scheduled every week and there is a choice of early morning\, lunchtime or early evening slots scheduled. \nBook your place \nSpeaker: \n \nClaire Dan\, Director of Safeguarding and Director\, Sacpa \nClaire is Director of Safeguarding and Director\, Sacpa and leads on the provision of safeguarding advice and support to members and the development and delivery of CPD and safeguarding consultancy services. Claire is a safeguarding specialist and leader with a background in education welfare\, youth justice\, and early help contexts which have involved a strong focus on diverse and collaborative partnerships\, professional development and supervision of front-line safeguarding colleagues\, and leading multi-disciplinary teams and projects. Between 2006 and 2013 Claire was involved with Luton Safeguarding Children Board as a lead multi-agency safeguarding trainer\, developing and delivering single and multi-agency safeguarding training\, and since 2013 has delivered pieces of bespoke consultancy work\, and providing a range of safeguarding consultancy on a freelance basis.

SUMMARY:SACPA & BSA - Sextortion: lessons from case files
DESCRIPTION:Course outline: \nThe NCA and CEOP report significant increases in children and young people being forced to meet financial demands after being threatened with the release of nudes or semi-nudes\, and this crime of blackmail is referred to as `sextortion’. \nThis interactive seminar seeks to bring safeguarding practitioners together to explore\, debate and reflect on the phenomena of sextortion.  Led by a specialist in technology assisted child sexual abuse who will lead the seminar and answer questions on this area of safeguarding practice.  The seminar aims to provide a space for practice reflection that prepares safeguarding practitioners to identify\, respond and support children affected by sextortion and related harms. \nTraining topics will include: \n\nWhat is financially motivated sexual extortion and how does the Nudes and Semi-Nudes Guidance help us\nWhat does the voice and experience of children affected tell us\nHow can internal processes and multi-agency safeguarding systems support or re-traumatise child victims\nWhat are the implications for future practice and preventative work with children\n\nLearning outcomes: \n\nDevelop understanding of financially motivated sexual extortion\nUnderstand how the latest Nudes and Semi-Nudes guidance supports safeguarding work\nConsider the lived experience of affected children including victim blaming and possible re-traumatisation\nEngage in interactive and reflective discussion\, sharing experiences and debating practice dilemmas\nInform future policy and practice development within their setting to better identify\, respond and prevent financially motivated extortion\n\nAudience: \n\nThis seminar is for safeguarding practitioners and leaders who may work or be working with children\, their families and other professionals where children are subject to financially motivated extortion and technology assisted child sexual abuse.\n\nPlatform: Zoom (online) – seminar \nCost: \n\nSACPA/BSA Member Rate: £110\nNon-member Rate: £220*\n\nBOOK NOW \n*If you would like to become a member and access discounted rates for Sacpa CPD and events\, please click here. \n\nSpeaker: \nPhilip Baines\, Safeguarding and Training Consultant \nPhilip was a Detective having spent 30 years in the police. The last 14 years of his police service was in the Child Abuse Investigation Unit (CAIU). He is also qualified as the following: \n\nFamily Liaison Officer (FLO)\nDisaster Victim Identification Officer (DVI)\nSignificant Witness interviewer (Sig Wit)\nEnhanced Cognitive Witness Interviewer\nDomestic Abuse Officer\nPIP Level 2 investigator\nAchieving Best Evidence (ABE- VRI vulnerable and intimidated witness interviewer)\nSpecialist Child Abuse Investigative Development Programme (SCAIDP)\nJoint Investigator – Section 47 Children Act ‘89\n\nPhilip was also seconded to the Training Department for 2 years\, where he received qualifications in training and delivered all these subjects\, including Harmful Sexual Behaviours (HSB). \nPhilip is a qualified AIM3 Assessor of children displaying HSB. \nPhilip also quality assured the Home Office Harmful Sexual Behaviours Support Service (HSBSS) where he oversaw and triaged all the requests for support and advised personally on all the complex cases. \nPhilip supports survivors and families who have been victim of all types of abuse\, including technology assisted child sexual abuse (TACSA) through his work as a consultant for the Marie Collins Foundation.
