He is a retired police officer and has immense knowledge of the law and legal system together with over 20 years’ experience in business and event facilitation. Julian is creative at networking and making things happen. He has worked in the voluntary sector with NAPAC\, JIGSAW4U\, MACSAS\, The Besom Trust and Cheer Trust advising and supporting children and families especially in church circles. He is passionate about truth and justice and likes to help others achieve closure with difficult cases. He is passionate about raising standards and keen to share his experiences with individuals and organisations to help make places safer for children and vulnerable adults. \nDay 3 Speaker \nNikki Holmes : Safer Together\nContextual Safeguarding and Exploitation \nNikki has served as a police officer\, been a service manager for a young person’ substance misuse service\, is an experienced Children’s Services Inspector for the CQC\, and more recently launched her own consultancy Safer Together www.safer-together.co.uk\, which is a proud member of the WeProtect Global Alliance. \nAn expert in safeguarding with expertise and extensive experience of working in the fields of Child Exploitation\, County Lines and Modern Slavery\, Nikki now provides independent consultancy and training to a range of organisations including the NHS and Local Authorities. \nNikki is also a guest lecturer\, a public speaker and an independent author of Child Safeguarding Practice Reviews\, Safeguarding Adult Reviews and Domestic Homicide Reviews. \nDay 4 Speaker \nDez Holmes : Director\, Research in Practice\nDez Holmes is the Director of Research in Practice\, a not-for-profit organisation that since 1996 has been supporting those who work with children\, families and adults to use evidence\nin their practice and leadership. He holds extensive experience tackling a wide range of complex radicalisation cases in various roles\, including as a Social Worker within Children’s Services\, as Channel Coordinator within Prevent and as the Prevent Practitioner/Deputy Named Safeguarding Professional within an NHS mental health Trust. Furthermore\, Thomas is a PhD candidate in Social Work and Social Care investigating the radicalisation of young men and the role of masculinity in violent extremism. \nThomas is a qualified Social Worker with a background in Children’s services and holds years of experience in multi-agency safeguarding work. His work spans across safeguarding children and adults from a range of harms\, including domestic abuse\, sexual exploitation\, criminal exploitation\, county lines\, modern slavery and radicalisation. Thomas is passionate about supporting professionals to respond to safeguarding concerns\, and is using his PhD research to build a practical tool to support social workers to assess and safeguard males whom are vulnerable to radicalisation. \nIn his current role as Prevent Practitioner/Deputy Named Safeguarding Professional within Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust (SPFT)\, Thomas provides regular trainings to staff and teams across the Trust\, including Prevent Awareness\, Workshop to Raise Awareness on Prevent (WRAP)\, and Safeguarding Adults. Thomas also offers regular expert consultations to support staff to respond to complex radicalisation concerns across the Trust\, and is the SPFT representative in the Prevent’s Channel Panels across Sussex that provide a multi-agency approach to safeguarding those assessed as vulnerable to radicalisation. Moreover\, Thomas contributes to the development and updating of Policy within SPFT to structurally respond to emerging safeguarding concerns regarding radicalisation. \nOver the years\, Thomas has gathered substantial knowledge and practical expertise on the multi-faceted dynamics of safeguarding and radicalisation. His unique position of both working in and researching on this issue provides unique insights into this complex area of safeguarding. Thomas is available to deliver Prevent training to a range of organisations\, which will cover the key features of Prevent Awareness and Prevent WRAP\, including CONTEST\, the statutory duty under Counter Terrorism Security Act 2015 known as the ‘Prevent Duty’\, Vulnerabilities to Radicalisation\, Extremist Ideology and groups\, Current Threat Level\, and the Channel Panel process. Thomas will provide an opportunity to have a nuanced and critical discussion about this important and complex area of safeguarding .

Claire is a safeguarding specialist and leader with a background in education welfare\, youth justice\, and early help contexts which have involved a strong focus on diverse and collaborative partnerships\, professional development and supervision of front-line safeguarding colleagues\, and leading multi-disciplinary teams and projects. Between 2006 and 2013 Claire was involved with Luton Safeguarding Children Board as a lead multi-agency safeguarding trainer\, developing and delivering single and multi-agency safeguarding training\, and since 2013 has delivered pieces of bespoke consultancy work\, and providing a range of safeguarding consultancy on a freelance basis.
