DESCRIPTION:The impact of abuse in the home\, even indirectly\, is significant for the young people living in these conditions. Anyone can be a victim of domestic abuse\, regardless of age\, gender\, ethnicity or background. You can suffer by experiencing domestic abuse indirectly as well as being the direct victim. This webinar will consider how domestic abuse can manifest\, and the impact it can have on children and young people\, so that practitioners can increase their awareness of abuse in the home and strengthen their ability to respond and support if required. It will also introduce to Hollie Guard\, a police approved next generation personal safety app that\, once downloaded\, provides enhanced levels of protection to all users. He played football professionally for Cheltenham Town FC and Forest Green Rovers FC and has worked for the past 30 years in financial services in broking\, claims management and legal insurance. Nick is determined to increase awareness of domestic abuse and stalking and the devastation caused by these issues and spends a great deal of time campaigning. He has been instrumental in the Trust’s development and fundraising initiatives and works with the police to help improve services for victims. DESCRIPTION:It has always been understood that children who travel great distances from their homes for their education are vulnerable and merit specific thought when developing safeguarding and child protection policies within schools.\nFrom a safeguarding perspective\, there can be added complications relating to the responsiveness of your local authority in supporting international students\, and perhaps even corresponding with an overseas agency. 2020 and the ongoing COVID pandemic has highlighted how important it is that schools are prepared to recognise and respond to the safeguarding needs of their international students. \nSACPA and BAISIS will be running this event virtually via Zoom. Whilst in PICU\, she had a number of different roles. Nine years of that included a role as a specialist retrieval nurse (CATS) that entailed travelling around the country to stabilize and bring back critically unstable children. To do this she learned advanced nursing and basic medical skills in resuscitation\, all medical conditions\, and trauma. \n\nJill Hill\, Nurse Advisor\, BSA Group and Head of Medical Health & Welfare\, Cheltenham Ladies’ College\nJill is Lead Nurse at The Cheltenham Ladies College\, following a long career in Emergency care. As a Senior Sister and Emergency Nurse Practitioner at the John Radcliffe hospital\, she was responsible for staff training and worked in association with Oxford Brookes University to deliver specialist lectures in minor injuries and autonomous practice. She and her team are an integral part of the Pastoral team\, working with students\, staff and key stakeholders to ensure that the overall physical\, emotional and psychological wellbeing of each individual pupil is at the centre of all they do. Jill is a strong advocate for the nursing profession suggesting the unique skills and qualities nurses possess make them the perfect advocates for the students in their care.\nGeorge Peterkin\, Managing Director\, Mind your Health Ltd\nGeorge is Managing Director and Lead Instructor at Mind Your Health. Having worked as a teacher throughout his 20s\, George then made a steady transition into running Mind Your Health Ltd\, a company based in Surrey. SUMMARY:Webinar: Responding to the Ofsted review of sexual abuse
DESCRIPTION:In response to the Ofsted review of sexual abuse in schools and colleges published on June 10 2021\, BSA Group (Sacpa\, BSA) will be joining with GSA to host a free webinar for members looking in detail at the report and its findings\, cross-referencing to existing legislation and guidance and then considering constructive ways in which schools can engage in appropriate dialogue with pupils\, parents and other key stakeholders and formulate a response which will lead to long term change.\nBSA Group Director of Safeguarding\, Professional Development and Accreditation\, Dale Wilkins\, will be joined by GSA Chief Executive Donna Stevens for the session. \n  \nThis webinar is free of charge for members of Sacpa\, BSA\, GSA\, but booking is still required. Please click here to book your place. \n  \n \n  \nSpeaker: Dale Wilkins\, Director of Safeguarding\, Professional Development and Accreditation\, BSA Group  \nDale joined the BSA during Summer 2017 with responsibility for safeguarding and standards.  In July 2019 he also assumed responsibility for the BSA’s training programme\, including both day seminars and accredited training courses.  Dale leads on all safeguarding and inspection matters for the BSA\, including managing the Commitment to Care Charter\, the annual Safeguarding Conference\, the Safeguarding Forum.   He has also developed a process of BSA Accreditation for our overseas members. \nFor 31 years Dale was a boarding practitioner.  After boarding positions at Norwich School and Tettenhall College\, Dale became a Housemaster at Old Swinford Hospital in 1992\, and was promoted to Deputy Head in 2007\, and subsequently also DSL. He has also been a multi-agency trainer for the Dudley Safeguarding Children’s Board and has been closely involved in inspection in state and independent boarding since 2002. \nDale had previously been a BSA course tutor since 1998 and developed the BSA Self-Assessment Toolkit. \n  \nSpeaker: Donna Stevens\, Chief Executive\, Girls’ Schools Association\nAs GSA Chief Executive\, Donna is responsible for working with Girls’ Schools Association members and other stakeholders to encourage high standards of education for girls and to promote the benefits of being taught in a largely girls-only environment. She took up her role\, in January 2021\, at a critical time in the education sector\, supporting GSA schools as they shape and navigate their way through the ‘new normal’ which the coronavirus public health crisis has necessitated.\nDonna Stevens was previously Head of Research for the Independent Schools Council\, where she is responsible for overseeing a wide range of projects each year\, such as the ISC Annual Census\, the economic impact of independent schools on the UK economy\, and the impact of independent-state school partnerships. As a result of this\, and her knowledge of the ISC’s other work\, she has gained considerable insight to the issues surrounding the independent education sector and the role it plays within the UK education sector as a whole\, as well as internationally. She is a regular speaker at education sector conferences.\nDonna has a degree in mathematics from the University of Oxford and a post graduate diploma in educational and social research from UCL. Outside of work\, she owns and manages a successful performing arts weekend school which caters for 100 youngsters – including Donna’s own three children – and offers means-tested scholarships to local pupils. Donna also enjoys jogging and spending time with her family.

DESCRIPTION:This webinar\, delivered by Gendered Intelligence\, will promote knowledge and understanding around trans issues and trans identities\, focusing on key safeguarding points and the increased vulnerability of trans people\, based on their experiences. SUMMARY:Safeguarding in sport
DESCRIPTION:Every day millions of people participate in sport; amateur and elite athletes\, coaches\, referees\, volunteers\, organisers and parents. For the most\, this is a fun and positive experience. And it is crucial that everyone involved in facilitating access to sports of all kinds\, at all levels\, works to ensure this ethos is integral and to keep everyone safe.\nWe all have a duty of care to ensure club safeguarding policies are relevant and being adhered to\, safeguarding teams are trained and can spot the signs of mental wellbeing\, understand positions of trust and recognise areas of risk. Perhaps\, safeguarding in sports has been given too little attention in the past\, but as we see in the media things are changing; with the recent success of ‘close the loop’ campaign\, Sheldon’s review into sexual abuse in football and the IICSA report bought out in June 2020 ‘Child sexual abuse in sports’. \nFrom the pro-coach or safeguarding lead for a large club or organisation\, to the weekend volunteer or parent on the poolside\, safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility and it is clear we need to do more to ensure sports are safe for all. \nThis event will be running virtually via Zoom. She oversees a team of safeguarding specialist staff\, who work closely with children and adults at risk on various Club and Foundation activities.\nAlyson Evans\, Head of Wellbeing and Protection\, The Scottish FA\nAlyson leads the development\, implementation and review of the Scottish FA’s children’s rights and wellbeing programme.\nVal Wright\, sportscotland approved trainer\nWith a background in organisational development\, governance and safeguarding in sport organisations\, charities and community groups\, as well as a 10 year career as a frontline Police Officer\, Val has worked for several governing bodies of sport\,  developing robust policies and procedures to promote best practice to create safe environments for young people’s participation in sport and dealing with cases and concerns reported within sports clubs. Now Head of Safeguarding for the National Federation of Young Farmers’ Clubs – one of the largest rural youth organisations in the UK – Val leads on all of NFYFC’s safeguarding work\, designing and delivering safeguarding training and developing and reviewing safeguarding policies and procedures\, supporting staff to implement these within the 600+ clubs and to respond to and deal with reported concerns. \nGemma Woodhouse\, Partner\, Penningtons Manches Cooper\nGemma is listed as a ‘leading individual’ in Chambers UK and has been described as ‘a rare commodity in the legal world combining commercial awareness of the organisation she is working with and a legal brain’. Joanna will be discussing how she’s helping prepare UKA for the rearranged Olympic Games in 2021.\nNicola Dean\, Safeguarding Adults in Sports Manager\, Ann Craft Trust\nNicola’s key priorities are reviewing and developing services in relation to adults at risk in sport and identifying\, planning and implementing new initiatives in line with current practice. In addition\, Nicola develops and delivers a training strategy\, offers advice and information to sport and activity organisations and represents the sector at key consultations nationally.\nAlex Maxwell\, Director of Health & Wellbeing\, Meliora Group\nAlex is a practicing GP\, Sports Medic & Lifestyle Medic. His focus is to support and empower people to achieve and maintain their ideal version of health and wellbeing. He seeks first to understand and then to guide. He absolutely loves seeing someone making progress to improve their health and wellbeing. A particular focus is the health and wellbeing of Children; hence his involvement in childhood Sports Medicine and being a School Doctor. His aim as a school doctor is to provide the framework for the child to leave school with the tools to manage their mental and physical health for the rest of their lives.\n\n\n\n  \n\n13:45 – 14:45 \nPositions of trust\, patterns of grooming\nIndependent safeguarding expert\, Marcus Erooga\, will present findings and evidence from his extensive research into where positions of trust have been taken advantage of\, and share patterns observed in grooming. He is also secretary of the Northern Ireland branch of the National Organisation for Treatment of Offenders (NOTA).\nVicky Wilson\, Senior Associate\, Wilsons Solicitors LLP\nVicky is a legal safeguarding expert who advises on a number of sensitive and complex safeguarding cases. He played football professionally for Cheltenham Town FC and Forest Green Rovers FC and has worked for the past 30 years in financial services in broking\, claims management and legal insurance. Nick is determined to increase awareness of domestic abuse and stalking and the devastation caused by these issues and spends a great deal of time campaigning. He has been instrumental in the Trust’s development and fundraising initiatives and works with the police to help improve services for victims. Nick also helps businesses to tackle domestic abuse and stalking in the workplace and is a member of the Public Services Protection Board. \nNick undertakes motivational speaking regularly in his drive towards helping others. He has spoken at Gloucestershire University at the ‘Behind Closed Doors’ domestic abuse and stalking conference and at the domestic abuse masterclass as part of the Gloucestershire Schools’ transition forum. He also undertakes training for Paladin National Stalking advocacy and has presented at the Individual Stalking Advocacy Caseworker (ISAC) accredited training course in London on coercive control. Nick also spoke at ‘Beyond the Bruises’ conferences in the capital on new domestic violence legislation and statutory guidance framework.
