SUMMARY:Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) certificate (one-day)
DESCRIPTION:Course outline: \nSafeguarding leads and designated safeguarding leads in schools should undergo refresher training to provide them with the knowledge and skills required to carry out their role effectively. \nThis one-day Sacpa certificate programme delivers the required learning outcomes detailed in annex C of Keeping Children Safe in Education 2023.  Topic areas and practice examples include statutory requirements for education professionals in England\, but also incorporate international\, third sector\, and private sector examples where relevant to delegates taking part. \nThe design of the programme includes a range of teaching methods and encourages case study application of themes and topics including an additional focus on self-care in the role. \nTraining topics will include: \n\nThe role of the designated safeguarding lead\nRefresh of legal and regulatory frameworks including devolved nations and Charity Commission requirements\nEncouraging a culture of listening to children\nThe importance of information sharing\nVulnerable groups and the impact of trauma\nRefresh of traditional safeguarding signs and indicators and overview of specific contemporary safeguarding concerns such as e-safety\, child-on-child\, exploitation etc.\nMulti-agency working with early help and statutory services agencies.\n\nLearning outcomes: \n\nUnderstand the importance of the role the designated safeguarding lead has in providing information and support to local authority children social care to safeguard and promote the welfare of children\nEncourage a culture of listening to children and taking account of their wishes and feelings\, among all staff\, in any measures the school or college may put in place to protect them\nUnderstand the lasting impact that adversity and trauma can have\, including on children’s behaviour\, mental health\, and wellbeing\, and what is needed in responding to this in promoting educational outcomes\nAre alert to the specific needs of children in need\, those with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND)\, those with relevant health conditions and young carers\nAre able to understand the unique risks associated with online safety and be confident that they have the relevant knowledge and up to date capability required to keep children safe whilst they are online at school or college\nCan recognise the additional risks that children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) face online\, for example\, from bullying\, grooming and radicalisation and are confident they have the capability to support children with SEND to stay safe online\nUnderstand and support the school or college with regards to the requirements of the Prevent duty and can provide advice and support to staff on protecting children from the risk of radicalisation\nUnderstand the assessment process for providing early help and statutory intervention\, including local criteria for action and local authority children’s social care referral arrangements\nHave a working knowledge of how local authorities conduct a child protection case conference and a child protection review conference and be able to attend and contribute to these effectively when required to do so\nUnderstand the importance of information sharing\, both within the school and college\, and with the safeguarding partners\, other agencies\, organisations\, and practitioners.\n\nA similar SACPA one day DSL programme is also available on a consultancy basis where organisations have several colleagues in\, or aspiring to be in\, safeguarding leadership roles. Her experience also includes being a Local Safeguarding Children Board Trainer\, featuring in the TES (Times Educational Supplement) and Community Care magazine\, contributing a chapter in a Social Work book\, delivering child protection training in Dubai and Nationwide\, workshops and National Conferences and writing articles in Journals.  Ann Marie specialises in supporting schools with understanding the ‘child protection thresholds’ and supporting schools in appreciating how cultural issues impact on the families values that can affect our child protection procedures.

In July 2019 he also assumed responsibility for the BSA’s training programme\, including both day seminars and accredited training courses. Dale leads on all safeguarding and inspection matters for the BSA\, including managing the Commitment to Care Charter and has also developed a process of BSA Accreditation for our international members. He also liaises with ISI\, Ofsted and DfE on matters relating to compliance and inspection standards\, and compiles the BSA Self-Assessment toolkit\, which he first produced in 2002\, since which time he has been closely involved in inspection in state and independent boarding. \nFor 31 years Dale was a boarding practitioner. After boarding positions at Norwich School and Tettenhall College\, Dale became a Housemaster at Old Swinford Hospital in 1992\, and was promoted to Deputy Head in 2007\, and subsequently also DSL. He has also been a multi-agency trainer for the Dudley Safeguarding Children’s Board. \nDavid Walker\, Director\, BSA \nDavid is the BSA Director and joined the BSA group in August 2023. He has over 20 years’ experience in boarding schools and has worked in a range of schools in the UK and Africa\, alongside being a prep school governor and a trustee of a MAT. DESCRIPTION:Course outline: \nA significant focus on inspectorate judgement of pupil wellbeing is the way in which organisations prevent\, identify and respond to child-on-child abuse.  Inspectorate judgements refer to evidence of specific child-on-child training for everyone in direct and indirect contact with children and young people. \nWhilst there is a particular focus currently from education regulators\, an awareness of child-on-child abuse\, the safeguarding systems managing the phenomena is a key safeguarding practice consideration for charities\, voluntary and private sector organisations in discharging their safeguarding duties and promoting welfare. \nThis briefing will cover key knowledge and awareness topics within the child-on-child abuse strand of safeguarding including recent updates from KCSIE 2022 for those delegates to which it applies.  It includes a case study example that is used to review and apply learning content. \nUnable to attend? SUMMARY:Association Forum - Sexual harassment and sexual violence: what happens when the police get involved
DESCRIPTION:Course outline: \nSacpa coffee morning forums are networking events\, free for members and £65 for non-members\, which run monthly throughout most of the year. These events form part of the Sacpa mission to bring safeguarding leaders and practitioners together for mutual support and learning. \nEach month safeguarding leads and practitioners meet online to network around a specific safeguarding theme. In July 2019 he also assumed responsibility for the BSA’s training programme\, including both day seminars and accredited training courses. Dale leads on all safeguarding and inspection matters for the BSA\, including managing the Commitment to Care Charter and has also developed a process of BSA Accreditation for our international members. He also liaises with ISI\, Ofsted and DfE on matters relating to compliance and inspection standards\, and compiles the BSA Self-Assessment toolkit\, which he first produced in 2002\, since which time he has been closely involved in inspection in state and independent boarding. \nFor 31 years Dale was a boarding practitioner. After boarding positions at Norwich School and Tettenhall College\, Dale became a Housemaster at Old Swinford Hospital in 1992\, and was promoted to Deputy Head in 2007\, and subsequently also DSL. He has also been a multi-agency trainer for the Dudley Safeguarding Children’s Board. \n\nLaura Nott\, Schools Project Manager\, Lucy Faithfull Foundation \nAfter qualifying and working as a probation officer in the West Midlands\, Laura was seconded to a local charity to develop a therapeutic group work programme for young men affected by domestic abuse\, helping them to understand healthy relationships. She then set up a training and consultancy business; training teachers\, social workers and police officers in protective behaviours\, safeguarding and family therapy. After managing several voluntary sector projects and organisations\, Laura now leads LFF’s multi-disciplinary Schools team\, working alongside researchers from the University of Surrey on a three-year action research project to support schools to respond to and prevent harmful sexual behaviour. \n\nNikki Holmes\, Safer Together\, Contextual Safeguarding and Exploitation \nNikki has served as a police officer\, been a service manager for a young person’ substance misuse service\, is an experienced Children’s Services Inspector for the CQC\, and more recently launched her own consultancy Safer Together www.safer-together.co.uk\, which is a proud member of the WeProtect Global Alliance. \nAn expert in safeguarding with expertise and extensive experience of working in the fields of Child Exploitation\, County Lines and Modern Slavery\, Nikki now provides independent consultancy and training to a range of organisations including the NHS and Local Authorities. \nNikki is also a guest lecturer\, a public speaker and an independent author of Child Safeguarding Practice Reviews\, Safeguarding Adult Reviews and Domestic Homicide Reviews. \n\nColin Perkins \,Chichester Diocese (DW) policy developer National Safeguarding Team – CofE Diocese Safeguarding Advisor\, Diocese of Chichester \nColin Perkins is the Safeguarding Adviser for the Diocese of Chichester\, which is the Church of England in Sussex. He has managed the Church’s response to some of the largest criminal investigations in UK history into non-recent child sexual abuse in religious settings. He gave extensive evidence to the Independent Inquiry into Child Sexual Abuse (IICSA)\, with his team’s work being referred to as ‘best practice’\, with particular reference to partnership working with statutory agencies and responding to survivors of abuse during criminal investigations. Prior to his work in the Church of England\, Colin worked in Probation with high-risk sexual and violent offenders\, and gang members. Colin has a Post-Graduate Certificate in Forensic Behavioural Psychology\, and a Masters Degree in Advanced Child Protection \n\nMaria Strauss\, Farrer & Co \nMaria Strauss is a Partner at the law firm Farrer & Co.  She has extensive experience in safeguarding and employment law.  She acts for a variety of not for profit and education organisations including independent schools\, charities\, faith-based organisations and sports clubs.  Maria has many years’ experience in handling sensitive and complex cases for clients. She is a specialist in investigations and a trained interviewer.   Maria advises on all aspects of employment and equality law and was the lead author of the AGBIS Resource for Governors on Equality\, Diversity and Inclusion. Most recently\, Maria has advised on a number of complex cases such as bullying cases (including anonymous witnesses)\, safeguarding investigations into serious allegations with related parental complaints; whistleblowing complaints\, ‘clash of rights’ cases\, and a range of other cases involving staff\, children and parents. Maria is a governor of an independent prep school in London. \n\nCarol Carson\, Director of The AIM Project \nCarol Carson is the Director of The AIM Project one of the leading UK and international organisations in children and adolescents with harmful sexual behaviours (HSB). She has over 30 years’ experience in safeguarding children and specialising in HSB. Carol has written several books and articles on the subject\, including the AIM Assessment model for Children under 12 years old; a children’s story for working with children aged 5 – 8 years old “Johnny and the Sparkles in his Pants”; and AIM Autism and HSB Practice Guide as part of her PhD. \n  \n\nEmma Rothwell\, Assistant Head: Inclusion\, Equality & Diversity\, The Perse School \nEmma is currently Assistant Head – Inclusion\, Equality & Diversity\, a Safeguarding Lead & Chaplain at the Perse School. Her work involves driving strategy for D&I to impact positive change in culture and innovating best practice in safeguarding and managing sexual misconduct. Emma trains staff and speak nationally on D&I and safeguarding. Emma’s previous experience includes Principal and Director of Studies in a large federation. In this role she developed inclusive educational programmes for national use\, oversaw significant institutional change and worked on compliance. Emma has over 25 years’ experience of using qualitative and quantitative methods to build inclusive communities across generations in very different contexts\, as a leader\, teacher-trainer and strategist. \nEmma developed fast track for teachers with the DFE and worked as a university lecturer in education at Cambridge University and ARU teaching inclusive pedagogy. Maria has been involved in the development and delivery of Preventing Sexual Misconduct Education (PSME) and the Sexual Misconduct Liaison Officer (SMLO) Model helping schools and colleges to create a whole school approach in their prevention and response to sexual misconduct.  Maria has also presented nationally and internationally with a focus on healthy relationships and safeguarding in sport. Maria is committed to improving services for those affected by Sexual Violence through building knowledge\, confidence and skills in frontline workers. \nMost recently Maria has become the interim Head of Training leading in the development and delivery of training for LimeCulture in their Sexual Violence\, Safeguarding\, Education and University work. \nPrior to joining the LimeCulture Team she was a specialist-safeguarding nurse for the largest children’s hospital in the UK. She has also worked as an Independent Sexual Violence Advisor (ISVA) and a Crisis Worker at a Sexual Assault Referral Centre. \nKarl Hopwood\, E-Safety Expert \nKarl Hopwood is an esafety expert. He is a member of UKCCIS (UK Council for Child Internet Safety) and sits on the advisory board for the new UK Safer Internet Centre. Karl has worked for a number of key players in the UK and abroad including CEOP (Child Exploitation and Online Protection Centre)\, BECTA (British Educational and Communications Technology Agency)\, the European Commission and several Local Authorities within the UK. As an ex headteacher\, he continues to work closely with children\, young people\, parents and teachers to develop safer online behaviours and the promotion of digital literacy. Karl works closely with the Boarding Schools’ Association and supports many of their schools. He is also an in-house consultant for INSAFE which is the coordinating node of the EU safer internet programme. \nMarcus Erooga\nIndependent Safeguarding Consultant \nMarcus is an independent safeguarding and sexual abuse Consultant\, Researcher & Trainer. From 1999-2018 he was a Visiting Research Fellow at the University of Huddersfield Centre for Applied Childhood\, Youth and Family Studies. He spent the majority of his employed career in various positions at the NSPCC\, as a practitioner\, team manager and Assistant Director for service delivery as well as service and policy development roles relating to child sexual abuse and sexual offending. \nHe has authored or edited some 80 publications on child abuse and sex offender related issues. Most recently this work has focused on organisational safeguarding. In 2016 he co-authored a review of the literature on organisational risk & protective factors for the Australian Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse as well as being Expert Witness on grooming in a Royal Commission Case Study. He is an Expert Witness for the IICSA (the Independent Inquiry into Child Sexual Abuse) Residential Schools inquiry. \nAs an independent consultant Marcus regularly trains and presents based on his research and undertakes safeguarding work including audits & reviews for a range of organisations. He is a retired police officer and has immense knowledge of the law and legal system together with over 20 years’ experience in business and event facilitation. Julian is creative at networking and making things happen. He has worked in the voluntary sector with NAPAC\, JIGSAW4U\, MACSAS\, The Besom Trust and Cheer Trust advising and supporting children and families especially in church circles. He is passionate about truth and justice and likes to help others achieve closure with difficult cases. Claire is a safeguarding specialist and leader with a background in education welfare\, youth justice\, and early help contexts which have involved a strong focus on diverse and collaborative partnerships\, professional development and supervision of front-line safeguarding colleagues\, and leading multi-disciplinary teams and projects. Between 2006 and 2013 Claire was involved with Luton Safeguarding Children Board as a lead multi-agency safeguarding trainer\, developing and delivering single and multi-agency safeguarding training\, and since 2013 has delivered pieces of bespoke consultancy work\, and providing a range of safeguarding consultancy on a freelance basis. \n\nDavid Walker\, BSA Director \nDavid is the BSA Director and joined the BSA group in August 2023. He has over 20 years’ experience in boarding schools and has worked in a range of schools in the UK and Africa\, alongside being a prep school governor and a trustee of a MAT. Before taking up his post at the BSA\, David was Deputy Head Pastoral at a large co-ed independent school in the South-East. \n  \n\n \nDale Wilkins\, Senior Director\, BSA and BSA Group \nDale joined the BSA during Summer 2017 with responsibility for safeguarding and standards\, having previously been a course tutor since 1998. In July 2019 he also assumed responsibility for the BSA’s training programme\, including both day seminars and accredited training courses. Dale leads on all safeguarding and inspection matters for the BSA\, including managing the Commitment to Care Charter and has also developed a process of BSA Accreditation for our international members. He also liaises with ISI\, Ofsted and DfE on matters relating to compliance and inspection standards\, and compiles the BSA Self-Assessment toolkit\, which he first produced in 2002\, since which time he has been closely involved in inspection in state and independent boarding. \nFor 31 years Dale was a boarding practitioner. After boarding positions at Norwich School and Tettenhall College\, Dale became a Housemaster at Old Swinford Hospital in 1992\, and was promoted to Deputy Head in 2007\, and subsequently also DSL. He has also been a multi-agency trainer for the Dudley Safeguarding Children’s Board. \n\nGaelle Sullivan\, Director Research and Inclusion\, Director TIOB \nGaelle is Head of Research Services and Inclusion and joined the BSA in January 2023. She is an experienced senior leader and has worked in a range of state and independent schools. She is a qualified SENCO and holds a Masters Degree in Inclusive Education. Prior to joining the BSA\, Gaelle was Deputy Head Pastoral\, DSL and Head of Boarding at an all-girls independent school in the South-East. \n  \n\nMaria Putz\, Interim Head of Training (Sexual Violence and Safeguarding)\, LimeCulture CIC  \nMaria joined LimeCulture in January 2019 as one of the Training Managers. Maria has been involved in the development and delivery of Preventing Sexual Misconduct Education (PSME) and the Sexual Misconduct Liaison Officer (SMLO) Model helping schools and colleges to create a whole school approach in their prevention and response to sexual misconduct.  Maria has also presented nationally and internationally with a focus on healthy relationships and safeguarding in sport. Maria is committed to improving services for those affected by Sexual Violence through building knowledge\, confidence and skills in frontline workers. \nMost recently Maria has become the interim Head of Training leading the training for LimeCulture in their Sexual Violence\, Safeguarding\, Education and University work. \nPrior to joining the LimeCulture Team she was a specialist-safeguarding nurse for the largest children’s hospital in the UK. She has also worked as an Independent Sexual Violence Advisor (ISVA) and a Crisis Worker. \n\n \nJon Needham\, Director of Safeguarding\, Oasis UK \nJon originally trained as a registered nurse specialising in adolescent life limiting illness\, before moving to an advisor to a strategic health authority and then as a young people’s health service commissioner with a specific portfolio for mental health\, sexual health and paediatric care. He worked briefly as a specialist advisor on two World Health Organisation projects before becoming the lead for early help provision and multi-agency working in a large local authority overseeing the support offered to 1/3 million children and young people. \nHe became an education safeguarding advisor 15 years ago\, and for the last five years has worked as the National Director of Safeguarding and Wellbeing for Oasis. \nIn his spare time\, he is a voluntary youth worker and work mentor to six ‘men in industry’ and is just about to complete his Doctorate in Psychology. He is the safeguarding advisor to a large annual summer festival and when he ever relaxes he is a keen fan of Korean drama (though he’ll admit he has to use subtitles). \n\nCharlotte Jones\, Director of Pupil Progress\, Downe House \nCharlotte Jones is a special educational needs teacher with a wealth of experience\, having worked in the private and state sector for the past 18 years. Originally a primary school teacher\, over the years she has developed a passion for the complexity of common learning challenges and has a special interest in the interface between organic learning difficulties and mental health. She is a member of the British Psychological Society. \nCharlotte develops a deep understanding of an individual’s executive functioning\, sharing strategies\, tips and tools to strengthen the performance of her young clients. \nAlongside her work as the Director of Pupil Progress at Downe House School in Berkshire supporting the needs of their high-functioning neurodivergent students she is also a coach at a clinic in London supporting ADHD learners. \nShe brings huge energy and commitment to the work\, drawing upon personal experience of learning challenges as a child – as well as her own mental health journey – to inform her compassionate coaching style and help students develop greater competence and self-confidence in education. \n\nKay Joel\, Senior Consultant for Education\, NSPCC Professional Learning Services \nKay Joel is a Senior Consultant with experience of over 25 years of teaching in primary and special education settings\, managing learning and behaviour support services and school improvement services before joining NSPCC in 2011. \nSince then she has worked with schools and other education providers and other organisations to audit and review safeguarding policies\, procedures and practices. She has contributed to the development of teaching resources and e learning courses. \n\nKevin Hartley\, Senior Consultant for Education\, NSPCC Professional Learning Services \nKevin Hartley is a Senior Education Consultant for the NSPCC. Kevin has worked in secondary education for almost 30 years\, initially as an English teacher\, but later as a Pastoral Lead and then as a member of senior leadership. ​ \nFor most of his career he has been involved in safeguarding and spent 12 years as a DSL in a busy\, diverse 11-18 Academy. He has contributed to the development of policies and procedures at both school and Trust level. ​ \nKevin now works in the NSPCC consultancy service which supports schools and other organisations in developing their safeguarding practices. \n\nAlison Hesley\, Home Educator and Neurodivergence Awareness Raiser \nAlison Hesley held senior roles in schools\, a local authority\, a university and a Multi Academy Trust during her 30 year career in Education. Most recently she was the director of a large school-based teacher training provider and a National Teaching School Hub. Alison is now a full time carer and educator to her 12 year old autistic son who has been unable to attend school for almost a year due to burn out and school trauma. During her spare time she writes about their experiences on social media to raise awareness of the issues that neurodivergent young people and their families face in the education and SEND systems.

He holds extensive experience tackling a wide range of complex radicalisation cases in various roles\, including as a Social Worker within Children’s Services\, as Channel Coordinator within Prevent and as the Prevent Practitioner/Deputy Named Safeguarding Professional within an NHS mental health Trust. Furthermore\, Thomas is a PhD candidate in Social Work and Social Care investigating the radicalisation of young men and the role of masculinity in violent extremism. \nThomas is a qualified Social Worker with a background in Children’s services and holds years of experience in multi-agency safeguarding work. His work spans across safeguarding children and adults from a range of harms\, including domestic abuse\, sexual exploitation\, criminal exploitation\, county lines\, modern slavery and radicalisation. Thomas is passionate about supporting professionals to respond to safeguarding concerns\, and is using his PhD research to build a practical tool to support social workers to assess and safeguard males whom are vulnerable to radicalisation. \nIn his current role as Prevent Practitioner/Deputy Named Safeguarding Professional within Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust (SPFT)\, Thomas provides regular trainings to staff and teams across the Trust\, including Prevent Awareness\, Workshop to Raise Awareness on Prevent (WRAP)\, and Safeguarding Adults. Thomas also offers regular expert consultations to support staff to respond to complex radicalisation concerns across the Trust\, and is the SPFT representative in the Prevent’s Channel Panels across Sussex that provide a multi-agency approach to safeguarding those assessed as vulnerable to radicalisation. Moreover\, Thomas contributes to the development and updating of Policy within SPFT to structurally respond to emerging safeguarding concerns regarding radicalisation. \nOver the years\, Thomas has gathered substantial knowledge and practical expertise on the multi-faceted dynamics of safeguarding and radicalisation. His unique position of both working in and researching on this issue provides unique insights into this complex area of safeguarding. Passionate about the nurse’s role in the delivery of the PSHE curriculum\, Rosie is currently the Head of Boarding at St John’s College School\, she has a Masters in Medical Ethics and Law\, is a NUCO trainer and has a keen interest in the development of the school nurse role. \n  \n\nBill Prior\, Joint Principal of International College\, The Kings School \nBill is founding Joint Principal at King’s International College in Canterbury. He has worked in China\, Scotland\, England and Germany in school management\, development\, teaching and qualifications. He has a First in Chinese from the University of Oxford\, trained as a teacher at Edinburgh University and later returned to Oxford to complete a Masters in Education. He is a Scot and speaks fluent Mandarin and German. \n  \n  \n  \n\nHelen Nellany\, National Safeguarding and Standards Manager at Volunteer Police Cadets \nHelen has been a police officer for 22 years and is currently a serving police Inspector working in a National role as the Safeguarding and Standards Manager for the National Volunteer Police Cadets Team. \nHaving designed and created the Volunteer Police Cadet scheme for her home force in 2012\, Helen joined the National Team in 2018 to overhaul safeguarding processes nationally\, introducing mandatory safeguarding training and safeguarding standards for all police forces in England and Wales. \nHelen is a Youth Mental Health First Aid Trainer\, a Trauma Informed Practice Trainer and provides safeguarding advice and guidance on a daily basis to Police Officers\, Police Staff\, Volunteers\, Young people and their parents. \nOnce a believer that naughty children should be dealt with firmly\, punished and prosecuted when needed\, Helen is now an advocate that ‘outside behaviour’ is often the result of an ‘inside story’ and this should be explored on every occasion first. \n\nJane Eldridge\, Director of Guardianship Services\, College Guardians  \nJane set up and has been running College Guardians for over 14 years. She has enjoyed watching the company grow and develop\, supporting many students from all over the world. \nJane spent many years living and working overseas\, in Europe and the Far East\, and loves that there is always something new to learn about with all the different countries and cultures that our students are from. \nJane has a global MBA from Lancaster university\, is a Mental Health First aider and is the Designated Safeguarding Lead for College Guardians. \nOutside of work\, Jane keeps herself busy with her two children and gorgeous cocker Spaniel called Betty! \n\n \nDeclan Ennis\, Director of Internationalisation\, International School San Patricio Toledo (INSPIRED)  \nDeclan has been working in San Patricio School for 39 years. Declan started as an English teacher in the primary school for 9 years. He then moved to the Secondary school and taught secondary courses for about 10 years and then taught students in the final 2 years before university. \nDeclan saw that improvements could be made for the students and their learning of the English language so he became Coordinator of the English Department. He also introduced both French and German into the educational programme giving importance to languages in the centre. Declan introduced IGCSE ́subjects and official exams in Business and Economics in Secondary Education. \nDeclan then became Director of International affairs for the schools of San Patricio providing a full programme of studies abroad for our students and also teachers through Erasmus Plus projects. \nAs Director of International Affairs Declan also worked in Marketing and attended Agent Fairs and events and visited schools around the world to promote the Boarding House. \nDeclan was offered the position of Head of the Boarding House at ISSP Toledo where he has been for the last 5 years. \nIn all these years Declan has learnt many things\, but the personal satisfaction was always to be in contact with children and the opportunity to see education and the difficulties students have from many parts of the world. \n\nSarah Knight\, Founder and CEO\, The Allergy Team \nSarah Knight is Founder and CEO of The Allergy Team\, an organisation which supports schools\, food businesses and families to manage food allergies. The company runs a programme for schools including training and consultancy to transform safety and inclusion. Before setting up The Allergy Team\, Sarah was a senior TV executive working on prime-time BBC shows including Your Home Made Perfect and the flagship consumer show\, Watchdog. Sarah has two children\, both with food allergies. \n\nLisa Jones\, HeadStrong Training \nLisa Jones is a multi-award-winning\, science driven\, fact-based therapist\, coach and passionate trainer who believes that prevention is better than intervention. \nLisa works in both the corporate and education sector teaching others the importance of brain health\, resilience\, stress management and emotional wellbeing as well as running a busy private practice. \nLisa is a fully qualified and insured Psychotherapist\, Counsellor\, Health Coach and Mental Health Consultant registered with The British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). She is also a senior accredited member of The National Counselling Society and The Association for Coaching. \nAfter graduating with a BSc (Hons) in Counselling & Psychotherapy\, Lisa went on to work with adults to overcome addiction and mental health issues. Having experienced chronic ill health for many years\, Lisa developed a keen interest in brain health and the brain / mind/ body connection. Lisa was fascinated by how our minds can influence our wellbeing and vice versa. After overcoming her own health issues\, she then specialised in the field of chronic ill health and stress. Lisa went on to certify in Applied Neuroscience and Brain Health\, Applied Neuroscience and Coaching and Women’s Health and Neurobiology. \nShe also gained a NLP Practitioner Coaching Diploma and certified as a Life Coaching Practitioner\, Youth Coach\, NLP Master Practitioner\, Hypnotherapy Practitioner\, Mental Health First Aid and completed a BPS approved certificate in clinical supervision. The specific focus of her work addresses the mind-body connection and the impact our language (self-talk) and belief system has on all aspects of health and wellbeing as well as self-esteem and confidence. The principles of Neuroscience underpin the work Lisa does as she believes it is essential to educate people on how the brain works\, how to influence mindset and to understand neuroplasticity (the ability of the brain to form and re-organise neural connections). By doing so\, this enables us to build resilience\, develop essential life skills and learn how to manage stress effectively. \nTogether with her business partner\, Veronika Chidemo – a Teacher and School Mental Health Leadership Consultant\, she co-founded HeadStrong Training in Education. Lisa and Veronika are passionate about an integrative approach to Mental Health and Wellbeing in Education and believe that everyone should be equipped with essential skills to confidently manage the stresses in life. \n\nPhillip Beisty\, UKCP acc. Psychotherapeutic Counsellor\, Best Start Therapy \nPhill is a Psychotherapeutic Counsellor in private practice with previous experience of being a safeguarding lead for a corporate mental health company\, currently working from his private practice just off Harley Street in London. \nPhill’s background as a therapist includes working with vulnerable children within maintained and independent special schools and specialist units schools.  Managing and delivering therapy services to a wide range of students with needs ranging from complex trauma and neurodiverse conditions involving leadership in safeguarding in the context of complex safeguarding and multi-agency arrangements. \nPhill has a passion and strong belief that all children and young people should have the best start in life\, and that they can access the appropriate therapy and safeguarding services to ensure this can happen. \n\nSkyler Moulder\, Lead Nurse and Deputy DSL\, The Leys  \nSkyler did her Adult Nursing BSc at Kings College London in 2011 and went straight into community nursing. After the birth of her first son she stumbled into community school nursing and never looked back. During her time as a community school nurse she covered primary and secondary schools all across Cambridgeshire. She completed training such as the CAMHS foundation module\, Sexual Health and Contraception module and was trained in Safeguarding Children Level 3. She completed her PG Diploma in Specialist Community Public Health Nursing in 2016 when she was pregnant with her second son\, which she later topped up to a full MSc in 2023 when she was pregnant with her daughter! This also included qualifying as a Nurse Prescriber. Skyler co-lead the development of a 0-19 Duty Desk and the introduction of the Chathealth text service in Cambridgeshire Community Services. In 2019 she became a Team Manager for the CCS Healthy Child Programme – managing a team of Nursery Nurses\, Health Visitors and School Nurses during the pandemic. In 2020 she was recruited to be the Lead Nurse at The Leys in Cambridge\, to lead a team covering 24 hour care for around 575 pupils (over half of which are boarders). This is where she is now and where her passion for independent school nursing started.

He spent ten years working in the Probation Service in community and custodial settings\, prior to joining The Lucy Faithfull Foundation in 1997. \nDuring his 25 year tenure at LFF\, Michael prepared some hundreds of ‘Expert Witness’ reports for Family Court proceedings\, and delivered hundreds of days training to social workers\, probation officers\, and police officers. He was involved in ‘whole community’ safeguarding assessments in a number of British Overseas Territories\, including Pitcairn\, and the Falkland Islands. \nMichael has acted as ‘Staff Trainer’ for Europol’s ‘COSEC’ course for fifteen years\, a 10 day course which trains police and prosecutors to investigate online sexual offences against children. He is also responsible for the well being of students and trainers on the programme\, and has delivered similar staff support training to civilian analysts in the Metropolitan Police. \nMichael sits on the Football Association’s Safeguarding Review Panel\, a quasi judicial role\, which is the final arbiter of decisions relating to fitness to engage in football. He is contracted to work with Europol\, Cepol (The European Union police training centre\, in Budapest)\, and INHOPE\, which manages the activities of Hotlines dealing with indecent content on the Internet. \nHe is the author of a play\, now a book\, ‘Crossing the Line’\, which deals with issues relating to secondary harms and vicarious trauma in investigations related to the downloading of child sexual exploitation material.

Between 2006 and 2013 Claire was involved with Luton Safeguarding Children Board as a lead multi-agency safeguarding trainer\, developing and delivering single and multi-agency safeguarding training\, and since 2013 has delivered pieces of bespoke consultancy work\, and providing a range of safeguarding consultancy on a freelance basis.

SUMMARY:Practice Forum - The child’s voice – from tokenism to activism
DESCRIPTION:Course outline: \nSacpa coffee morning forums are networking events free for members and £65 for non-members that run monthly throughout most of the year. These events form part of the Sacpa mission to bring safeguarding leaders and practitioners together for mutual support and learning. \nEach month safeguarding leads and practitioners meet online to network around a specific safeguarding theme.
